We dropped the boat in at Everet’s around 9a.m. yesterday and headed up river and the first spot produced walleyes and saugers. We started with plastic and meat and the meat outproduced everything else we threw at them. Draggin down river was the key to putting eaters in the box. Though the weather wasn’t the best we fought through the rain, sleet, and snow we managed to have fun, catch some fish and scratch that open water itch.(No fish over 20″ maybe next time)

Awesome! Good times when the first spot is hot!

    Thanks for the report back!

While I was sitting at my desk watching is snow yesterday, I was wondering if I really rather had been fishing. LOL!

Made the trip down to fish with Marty Friday morning, Marty is a great guy to fish with. He showed me a number of areas he targets fish and techniques (pitching, dragging, 3 way) he uses during the spring. I had never fished with a guide before and booked this trip to save time learning the area for when I head down on my own. I was very happy with what I paid for and feel good/confident with the plan I now have when I make the trip. I won’t have to follow the crowd to find fish.

As for the fishing……it was somewhat slow, but weather (rain, sleet then snow) and the time of day I believe was the factor in that. Managed 4 nice eaters and released I think 8 with 1 over 20”, they were all eyes. Minnows produced over plastic, we were dragging with a plain hook on a 3 way. We only fished up by the dam for about ½ hour, but caught 10-12 dinky saugers while we did. There’s a ton of sauger up there right now. Dropped the camera down for a couple passes, you would think you catch more fish with number (lots) of fish we had under the boat, pretty cool though. Water clarity is still good, but Vermillion is starting to dump and clouding it up a little in that area. They have opened one of the shoots a little on the dam and current is up on that side of the river.

Can’t wait till I get back down……..good luck all.

Good luck when you make the trip. I am hoping to make it back down there this weekend. Sounds like the evening bite is what you want to be on. I’ll have to find a place to staty. Anyone know of a good place to stay for the night?
