I am looking to create a short fishing report for my fishing club (MVIF) that will fish P2 at the end of April. We will have only about 10 boats. Are Walleyes still hanging on the wing dams at the end of April? Any advice is appreciated. We are multi-species so info on Northerns, SM, Crappies and other species is appreciated. We often all end up near the Ford Dam, wanted to encourage our members to try other P2 spots.

The dam is a good bet that time of year. Jig and minnow for crappies and some walleyes. Might even find some rough fish up there. Warm water discharge at Pigs eye might be another good spot. Hard to say on other spots right now. Dont know if the river will be at flood stage that time of year or running normal. Either way it can be a tough time as the walleyes are moving back down river after the spawn and still working on getting set up on spots.

If you happen to hit it right and its warm out the white bass might be another good option. Just look for slack water areas just off the main flow and a little warmer water temps.

Mike had good advise there. I think walleyes more than anything and late april can be a crap shoot. There are no wingdams to fish up north by the ford dam… These will be down river by the airport and south. Late April means lots of flow!!!! there will be no wingdam bite this time of year with the snow we have down right now. Slack water areas will have your fish. The eyes usually stack up pretty close to the main channel on the seams while most your other species will go way back into slack/dead water areas that warm the quickest. Look at a map! find areas that look to warm fast and hold moderate to low/no flow. The water will be dark so loud/bright baits and have a plan b,c and d spot so you can run and gun. IMO you are limited up north but the dam will have fish to be found. If the water is on its way up yet you may have to go way back in some areas and if it is on the way down try to stay closer to the main channel regardless of what end of the pool you are fishing you may be shocked at how shallow you can find fish that time of year!

If we get enough warm weather and the water temps are up enough you could also try trolling backwater areas where there is some current.
