The Cannon river chain is from Sabre Lake, Tetonka Lake, Upper-Mid-Lower Lake Sakatata (spelled wrong I bet) near Waterville MN. It ends where the river hits a dam below Lower Sakatata, and though then a “locked” system, it continues to Faribault Mn. where it hits the Straight River.

Today, I found the adult fish in 35 feet of water in the main lake basin on Tetonka today. They hit a crawler harness (dressed with double crawlers) run behind a Lindy Snagless Sinker, right on bottom. I was drifting at about 2 1/2 mph. No where on the chain could I find adult fish shallow!

These walleyes are easy to see on the locator. Go get em… “Hoggie” Hoggard

    Hoggie,

where were you when you cought them? I fished it hard for two days and never even had a nibble! While i was staying at a campground a person that was next to me cought a 4 1/2 pounder. But I was not able to catch anything.

Ryan, I was drifting from the mid lake basin in 35 foot of water South of the point that is by Tetonka Resort. If you were to come out of the man made cut channel (the slews?) and drift North West out over the deep water, half way to the other side of the lake shore.

It was wild to see that many big fish signals on my locator, that deep on the lake! I guess it was the boat traffic.

Like you I spent much time on everything… trees, weeds, drops, up the river, secondary drops, flats, rocks, …. no big fish till I hit the deep fish on the basin.

Better luck next time! Remember to check out the deep water though. It was another learning lesson for me! By the way, no none elce that I saw was working that deep of water.

Hey Hoggie, since the fish are deep have you had any luck getting them in front of where the river dumps in around 24-26 ft.? We use to get them there on bottom bouncers and spinners with nightcrawlers. Bill

Hey Hoggie, any truth to the rumor that a New record largemouth Bass just came out of Tetnka recently? Thanks

Thanks, I will check with the DNR tomorow!

I hung what may have been this fish last year while fishing with my son Jeff. It was big enough! The fish ate a beetle spin and spit it at the boat. We got to see him up close for a few jumps before he spit it. It took a while for the pulse to go down after seeing him!

There are some real big Bass in the lake, as well as there are Tiger Musky in Tetonka! I helped a fellow get one in two years ago. It was two days before the season. It came from the last of the shallow markers, in three feet of water. This fish was 49 inches and was very healthy and full. It is still swimming. Jerry at Best Point Resort told me that the DNR dumped a bunch of fry in there years ago (maybe by mistake when flushing a fishery pond), though it is not a designated Musky lake.
