Ok guys, I am planning a trip to pool four next weekend. First time for me. Looking for some advice as to what gear and techniques to use. Am I right in thinking it’s mostly a jig and rigging bite? Live bait and plastics. Will 1/4 oz jigs work or do I need bigger? Any advice would be appreciated.

P.S. we will be going out of Everets.

I’m assuming you mean in the boat, not on the ice. 1/4 oz is the biggest jig I would use, with 1/8 getting the majority of the water time for me. Plastics or live bait will put fish in the boat right now. Target 16-23′ of water if you’re looking for Saugers during the daylight.

My best advice is to wait until you get to everets to stock up on baits!

you’ll be using mostly jigs and to try and predict what colors sometimes can be a huge waist of money.. once there they can help point you in the right direction on whats working at the time saving you money on tackle.

    good luck!
