Instead of posting another report that was the same as the previous report, I thought I would throw a tidbit here fomr the my last trip on Friday. Fred Bertling joined me for an all day Friday trip. As Fred mentioned early on that today was a day for me and that I could go as I please, I opted to play several cards today and fish many different presentations and explore new waters and see what happens. We started pitching crnaks to the wingies as I have been doing the last several weeks and scored immediately with plenty of fish from 19″-23″ taking their way with the Bomber 6A cranks, pitched hairjigs and also plastics. All produced fish at some point in time. After a couple hours of chasing the wingies, I wanted to go after some back water fish with livebait and see what I could drum up. I made one pass withe some small crnaks shallow on the sand flats to see exactly where these fish were holding and bingo! We re-rigged the cranks to 3-ways and floater and leeches and started right into this area where they were sitting. As we approached the small 8-9 foot current swept sand flat, we nailed fish immediately. After one more pass and nearly another double between Fred and I, I decided to grab the jig rods and pinpoint these fish with the jigs. We proceeded to pull about 12 fish from this small little area. Nothing big from here, but good ole fashioned action!

We explored the rest of the day a bit and returned to a few wingdams before days end and proceeded to poke a few more fish from each spot on the cranks and jigs.

Fred is hoisting the big fish for us today! Nice fish Fred!
Both Fred and I each lost one more big fish today that would of ended the day even sweeter! Anyway, thanks Fred for joining me today, I had a great day and thanks for the day off!
We ended the day with a pretty high count for the numbers of fish but a little off on the size today for us as we did plenty of exploring new waters! Lots of 18″-23″ made there way boatside on this rainy day!

Good deal! Sounds like you found some fish more grouped together… I was hoping they would come around soon! You off to Mille LAcs now???

After spending the past year reading outstanding fishing reports posted by Steve and the rest of the fine quides who use this site, I decided it was time to spend a day on the water with Steve. We fished together on Friday and Steve did a great job of summarizing our day on the water in the previous report.

For those of you how want a quality day on the water, I cannot say enough about Steves skills as an angler. What was especially helpful was that as we fished together, Steve was dialed in to providing his guests an optimal experience. Not only is he knowledgeable, but he is also very good as teaching you the ropes. I’m a fair jig fisherman, but as this type of fishing was new to me, I just couldnt get the hang of jigging wingdams. Steve worked with me until I was successful, my largest fish came of a jig.

Like all of you, I love fishing and Steves efforts provided myself a great day on the water. I learned a great deal about Pool 2 which I hope will help me down the line. But, even without the success, Steve is a quality guide focused on customer service and success.

I took my 15 year old down the Pool 2 yesterday, hoping to follow up Fridays experience with a few more fish. Fishing wingdams, my son caught two 19 inch walleyes and one silver. On the way home, he jokingly asked if Steve could be his dad because he certainly is able to put more fish in the boat them me. I said, I’d ask. Hey Steve, want a 15 year old?

    Fred,

Thanks for all the kind words! I had a great time with you and I am glad you had a great time and learned alot. You are a good jig fisherman and picked up on the wingdam pitching technique real quick! That makes my job that much easier!! The bite continues to be good with the trolling bite getting better and better as of the last couple of days.

As for the 15 year old? Thanks Fred, but I have my hands full enough with my little boy getting older.
You and your boy will have years of enjoyment and memories on Pool 2 in the future to come.
    Take Care
