I just got back from pool 4. The bite is going strong. 90% of our fish today came on cranks while the jig n’ bait bite faltered. We had good numbers and 5 or 6 “overs” that got the release. Largest went about 7.5 Lbs. Firetiger was the hot pattern hands down.

Hey James. Thanks for the quick report. Glad to hear the bite is going strong. Did you concentrate your efforts today in alot of the same areas as your report on 05-20-04? Also, did you have better success on the jointed # 5 Shad Raps or the regular # 5 Shad Raps? Thanks in advance James.

Similar areas but the fish have relocated within the same areas noticeably as the water has come up. Jointeds didn’t turn a fish… we tried #4’s – 7’s and just could get bit. Regular #5’s did the trick.

Jointed raps have not worked well at all for me this year.

    Same here G’hunter.

I’ve had some moments with them on the lake at slower speeds but in the river the regular raps have been the ticket. I’d bet a cold one that as soon as we see a jump in water temps those jointeds will come into their own. Water temps yesterday hovered right around 60 – 61.

James, Tried the river last wednesday, had a lot of action catching sheepheads but no walleyes. Trolled the Wisc side from bay city to maiden rock pulling #5 shads sppeds 2-2.5 8-15 depth zig zag pattern. Any hints on what I did wrong? Going with Dustin tomorrow Hopefully the rain holds off

My memory fails me… was the day calm or windy? If it was windy, did it roll into the shorelines at Maiden Rock? The day I fished that area, a few days before you were there, the wind was on the rocks and the fish were piled up on the stubby little finger points coming off the shoreline. Your approach looks solid but it’s hard to comment with anything useful as I opted to stay in the river and never ventured out on the lake on that particular day. I will say this, when the wind blew right into the shore, we knocked the fish good. When it started to turn to the SE and off that stretch of shoreline, the bite fell off abruptly.
