How many jigs do you go through?

In the cold depths of winter I was doing a bit of inventory on my jig box and noticed it has gotten quite a bit lighter since last year. Mostly because I really got into pitching jigs on pool 2, and … well… a lot of my jigs are still out there in the river wedged in the rocks or in some timber or whatever.

Quick question: How many jigs do you go through in a day when you’re pitching jigs? How many in a season?

    I’m just curious.

How many jigs I go through depends on where I am fishing…When I started to fish P2 I was going through about a dozen or so every trip out. After I understood how to fish river structure better (jig size, retrieve speed, rod angle, line type, cast angle, etc…) I only go through 1 or 2/trip now.

On the other hand, I have gone through 20+ jigs/day at my cabin in Canada; mostly from small Norhterns. Lose alot of jigs up there where after you cast you don’t even feel a bite, but rather a clean break off.

Kinda depends on how much you fish and other factors. For me if Im out checking new spots Ill go threw maybe a dozen in a trip. Fishing old spots maybe just a jig or two a day. Casting Draggin jigs sure cuts down on how many get lost but its not my favorite jig for checking new spots. You dont get the feel of he bottom that you do with a H20 jig.

Same here…fishing new spots, I’ll go through 2-3 jigs per spot it seems until I can learn the layout.

If its a spot that i’ve fished before, I’d say about a jig every couple hours.

Then there’s those snaggy hellhole spots that eat jigs like no tomorrow, but consistently hold big fish. Jig losses at spots like that are countless.

Windy days seem to eat a lot more jigs to.

Also depends on mono or braid. Obviously, braid will save you some jigs that you can get back.

I am also looking over what I need to order and paint. Good times! And the kids love to help paint and re-sort dad’s jigs boxes.

hundreds. I average needing to make/replace about 3 to 4 hundred a year. I think I loose more to friends than snags

On pool 2 when I first went out I might lose 10 jigs a night. After 6 or 7 trips out walleye fishing and getting the hang of things I would say the average is 1 jig a night. Mainly because I learned to use lighter jigs (and I usually get more bites on them) and learning to pop a jig out of the rocks once stuck. Sometimes though, I’ll go through a couple more. Once the hook point gets bent, there’s only so many times you can bend it back and file it.
