Six year old son Ike made it back out today with Dad and Grandpa. His last trip out in the boat was in a blizzard. He told us, “I’ll catch a bunch because it’s easy.”
Well, he was right…for him! Grandpa and Dad struggled to catch a fish on plastics–bright colors were no good and the few we did catch came on very natural colors.
Ike boated 16 walleyes and saugers of the 23 we caught. All on sinker, plain hook, and minnow. We kept a few but threw most back to the river.
He set the hook himself and has the hoist in the boat down like a seasoned fisherman. When he continued to hoist 16 to 17 inch saugers with ease, I knew I had him trained well.
Now if he could just teach Dad a few fish catching tricks!
Ike posed like an angry sauger in one of his pics. Yes!
He especially enjoyed showing off for Steve, Tim, and Jeff as they floated by us. They were good sports about getting an Ike-shalackin’. You guys might need to take Ike with you next time!
