Pool 2 day time report.

Havent heard much about the old standard vertical jigging report from pool 2 this fall. Finely made a couple attempts at it this weekend and the results came pretty fast.

Started out Friday afternoon at the airport with just enough time before the sun hit the tree tops to make a quick jigging pass. Think I was still getting the trolling motor down and my line set up when Drew was bring the 1st fish to the surface. Picked up a couple more that pass and then it was time to move in shallower for low light bite.

Saturday afternoon Gary and I got out there a little earlier and again it didnt take long before a nice fat sauger was coming up. We picked up another 6 to 8 fish in the next hour and a half before moving in shallow again. Had a good mix of walleyes and sauger going.

For jigs it seemed to be just about anything we put down they would hit. Started out popping a couple on a hair jig. Then it was playing around with different color moxies and even a paddle tail which all got hit. Both vertical jigging and dragging those baits back up river took fish to.

Been telling myself for about a month now to go check this bite out and just finely got around to it. Looks like it may be a little late with the snow coming in today and cooler temps later this week. With any luck if the landing and channel doesnt freeze up the next warm day Ill be back checking on these fish again.

I was wondering when you would get around to checking out that bite. That is nice when you can get a little daylight fishing in too. All apologies to the iceheads, but I hope the river stays open and pool 2 is open for business this winter.

Thanks Greg. Thats why Im bummed about waiting so long to go looking for them and now there’s a good chance our landings will freeze in. We had a pretty good early fall sauger bite going up here and heard from a couple of guys catching them up to 23+”s. Would love to find one of those with a big belly on it now.

Kinda predicted last years Dec 6th snow storm was going to end our fishing up here on pool 2 and boy was I wrong. Sure hope Im wrong again this year. If it does freeze in Im sure you guys will be seeing me a few times down on pool 4.

Nice report Mike… Looking forward to trying the daytime bite on P2. Might have to try those one eye’s everyone is talking about on P4. Don’t see why they wouldn’t work on P2.

They should work Ken. In the pat we have caught them on just about everything you could put down. Even had a little run on them with jigging raps last year. Ice fishing jigs work to with a little minnow or minnow head on them.

Nice report Mike! Debated whether I should hit P2 or P4 on Friday, but opted for P4, as I had a full day. Pretty sure there was no wrong choice though

Okay. Its just a couple of days of being off the water and Im getting a little impatient all ready. Knowing over a foot of snow is sitting on top of some very poor ice on the lakes around here is not helping either. Hope to find some place to fish by the weekend.
