It was a good day to be on the water. Apart from the lack of sun. Getting on the water at about 11 I was worried I might have missed a good bite, but I wasn’t disappointed. The first 2 hours were fast and furious boating 7 fish over 15 inches with 2 that made it over 20. I spent most of the time pitching jigs and blades to shallow structure. The afternoon I spent playing with various techniques to see what would or should I say wouldn’t produce. I caught fish on everything from hand-lines to 3-ways with cranks, vertical jigging and dragging. It wasn’t the fast and furious action of the morning, but still enough to keep me interested. Chart. pepper paddletails and ringworms were top producers today for plastics. bright colors for cranks as well.
Would have been an interesting evening but had someone anchor about 15 feet from me, please be courteous to other fishermen while you’re out and at least ask before you start fishing the same water as someone.
On a brighter note Blades were by far the top producer today including this 21″ this was the 2nd fish over 20 inches…I forgot to snap a pic of the first one. All in all a fun day on the water.

Yeah, somebody anchoring on a hole you’ve been catching fish on sucks. A few years ago we were fishing Hay Creek during Saugerama, and a Green Lund with two skinny guys came and anchored directly on the hole the father watched us fish the day before. They ended up getting 3rd I believe.

They dropped their anchor directly where we were casting (we were there first and had been fishing int) and had been the day before when the dad came through pulling three ways and watched me catch fish. Sure wish those guys wouldn’t have done that.

It’s funny you say that about the green Lund. I was there too. The guy in the front had on a pair of green bibs. We still refer to him as “green jeans”. We weren’t fishing in the tournament so we were there at first light. They came screaming in a tossed anchor. At first it ticked us off, but watching them was hilarious. Everytime they would set a hook they would about go over backwards in the chair. And if they got a fish on, they would throw down their poles, run all over the place to get the net, knock crap all over, then half the time still loose the fish. It was actually pretty entertaining watching them. Pretty high strung fellows. Last fall we actually seen “ol’ green jeans” up at the dam. My buddy and I just giggled thinking about that day at Hay Creek.

Just yesterday we were vertical jigging then decided to try pitching in the MN corner for something different. There was a boat roughly 100 yards down stream with it’s trolling motor down and they were jigging like most everyone.

We motored up and dropped anchor.

We sucked at pitching because these guys came fairly close to us and were catching fish. Trying to be funny, I said “get closer and catch some fish under our boat” meaning that we sucked since they were catching fish 25 feet away from us.

The one guy say nicely “you anchored in our drift”. As far away as he was, the corner looked wide open when we pulled in. We pulled out and went back to vertical jigging.

    Two things I learned yesterday.

    1) Seldom does one angler try to pee off another angler.

    2) We sucked at pitching. There were fish there.

I learned Brian likes talking to cameras, even if there are just 4 people watching on the other end.

Its pretty easy to get ticked off on a body of water, whether there are 100 boats or a handful.

My favorite is when a bass boat is working a shoreline. You anchor a good 100 yards in front of them and they glare at you as they go around you. That’s when I look at them and smail while saying, “How they biting”.

I always smail at people in bass boats after I cut them off too.
