Second slowest night on P2 for me this year! One hit, zero fish…all night. Fished from 7pm til 11:30pm. Tried all the usual spots plus a couple extra that have always been “go to” spots…but nothing. Could mark some fish, but they just didn’t want to turn on for me…

Water temps are still dropping…36.8-37.0 degrees

Fish where still biting last night but the bite is not as simple as it was back in Oct. Water temps are dropping and the presentation is much more critical I believe. That slow steady retrieve on the jigs matched with the right jig weight gets very important. When its right the fish will let you know and like last night those fish where taking some of those jigs very deep.

Dont over look dragging jigs this time of year either. It can be a great way to give that slow steady presentation.

Being out a couple of nights this last week one thing I have noticed is there seems to be a lot of smaller fish feeding right now. Lots of fish in the 15 to 20″ range. Not sure what the big gals are up to. They must be feeding somewhere as it wont be to long and they will be sporting some very hug bellies. Much bigger than they are all ready.

Looks like some great weather this weekend and early next week. Think Im going to have to try the daytime vertical jigging bite one of these afternoons.

I did see some of the fish sitting In transition areas as well areas of 9-14 fow, but as usual…I played the patient game waiting for these fish to move up and become more aggressive…never really happened. I did make one half-hearted attempt to fish them deep with a blade where they were sitting, but no luck. I should have dragged these areas as it would have likely produced something….just had the hope they were going to move up further on the WDs. I think what you said Mike is dead on….the presentation is changing with the colder temps. I have noticed this when fishing during the day…

I read one of the reports from a telemetry study…and I think it won’t be long before these fish start to transition to their winter areas/patterns. I sure hope the big glad hang I. The more typical areas longer…

We didnt find a great bite last night but the size was a lot better than earlier in the week. Had a good number of fish over 20″s come to the boat. Think we missed at least twice as many fish as we had caught. Last spot we hit for the evening we drug jigs threw and missed on fish after another and caught maybe a half dozen or so. Tried pitching in this area to see if it would make a difference and couldn’t even get a bite.

Never did get a chance to check out the vertical jigging bite this weekend but maybe later this week Ill make it.
