The key is to look shallower at night. Most of my night fishing is in 8′ or less. We catch some tanks dragging at night.

We all know Brian does all his fishing during the day… Photo shops those pics with black to make it look like night time to keep people off his spots. Spreading rumors is all just part of the deal He is no rookie

November 30, 2012 at 12:30 am #1116155They dont bite at night because I caught them all in the afternoon.
November 30, 2012 at 1:06 am #1116161I guess I should have put some more detail into my question. I have been fishing Pool 2 6 nights a week the month of november. Have not caught one sauger during this time. I pulled an all nighter once and got a saugeye, but that was after the sun came up in the morning. Last year I fished P4 at night a few times and although I did catch a sauger or maybe two, as soon as the sun set it was less saugers and more eyes.
November 30, 2012 at 2:40 pm #1116321I assume this is a real question…. My first thought is that your fishing where they would have been in the afternoon. Deep and on the bottom?? At night, I catch most sauger and eyes in 8 feet or less of water, and if they are feeding aggressively, most are caught on cranks just beneath the surface. Here’s a suagy and saugeye that came on liples baits about 2 feet down in 10 feet of water.
November 30, 2012 at 2:46 pm #1116331Let me rephrase this question again. Has anyone caught a sauger night fishing Pool 2??? I have been out there 28 of the last 30 nights, have caught a few hundred walleyes, but not one sauger.
November 30, 2012 at 2:56 pm #1116336We caught a few this fall on pool 2. They dont hang as close tot he rocks as the walleyes. Seem to be more just off the rocks on softer bottom. Not sure if I would go target them at night. They can go pretty well during the day. Vertical jigging spots like the main channel at the airport and just above the 494 bridge was a couple of old community holes for them.
November 30, 2012 at 2:57 pm #1116337Probably because the overall sauger population on pool 2 is at it lowest level in 20+ years.

I was just gonna say…I haven’t caught many in the daytime OR the nighttime. Biologically speaking, I’ve read that sauger are more light sensitive than walleye…meaning they prefer less light than walleye. I usually fish shallow, but on the occasion that I’m fishing deeper, I tend to catch more sauger…mabye because they prefer the darker, deeper, and more turbid water.

I have caught lots of them but never any #’s per night. We have also caught largemouths, northerns, and white bass in Nov, Dec and Jan down there. I have not found any pattern nor have I looked for one for saugers. Saugers in general are a whole different species than walleyes. I know that sounds bland but they do tend to hold/feed in different depths and bottom substrate. Like mike said…. they seem to prefer softer bottom. I see this in the summer alot. Also they make there transition to the main channel and spawning areas much quicker than walleyes. Its early so I dont believe they head up stream already but do not always share the same feeding grounds as a walleye. If your fishing for walleyes, expect to catch them.
Saugers…. They dont seem to light the dark like eyes do and dont know why.28 of 30 nights….. Whew…. I thought I had issues

I don’t get it?
Did someone give the punchline yet?
No punchline… I am just being a smart friendly inside humor
November 30, 2012 at 8:46 pm #1116483Lower pop, sandy bottom, that’s the info I was looking for. I always catch a pile of saugers on P2 every year bass fishing up in the dirt. Just a little surprised at their recent absence, but now it’s making sense.
