Now that it’s almost december and the mercury is dropping we are starting to deal with below freezing temps during fishing trips. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on keeping equipment ice free during this time. I know the general consensus is that mono is better than hardline below freezing, but what about some of the newer additions in the line category like suffix 832 with goretex or nanofil? I was spraying “reel magic” on my line and guides the other night and it seemed to slow the ice from forming. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried any de-icer aerosol spray, or any other product on their rods/reels to prevent icing? After moving a few spots the other night my trolling motor was almost frozen in place!!

Mineral oil works well on guide tipes, and actually have used on trolling motor shaft as well.

Things still ice up, but at least slows it down a bit.

As far as the new hard lines go, I haven’t given them a go yet, still using mono when below freezing.

dry lubricant / silicone spray works great for keeping rods ice free and working
