Wow…was there a lot of cars and trailers in the lot last night. With the warm weather, it sure brought everybody out. The bite was rather slow to start, but we ended up strong after making some late evening adjustments.
Most every wingdam, had a boat on it and was getting hit pretty hard. We were getting some short hits, with quite some time that would lapse between the short hits. We fished for a couple of hours and got about 15 short hits and had no fish to show for it.
We began going through the colors, types of plastics and changed between 1/16oz to 1/8oz depending on the water we were fishing. Since the dams were getting hit pretty hard with fishing pressure, as well as always having boats and motors up in the shallow water disturbing the peace, we decided it was time for a change.
I noticed that there were always a lot of fish that were sitting in the 6-9 fow off the dams. Since the bite was slow up at the top and top edges of the dam breaks, we decided to try new water and leave the dams to be fought over with the plethora of boats on the water.
We began to work other breaklines, riprap and other structure and it was not too long afterwards that we began to get more and more hits which turned into finding more aggressive fish and solid hook ups. It was a task to find new areas to fish and always seems to burn up fishing time, but we sure glad we took the time to search new water and structure. We hooked into numerous 24″, 27″ and a personal best of 28.75″ that all hit up closer to shore on different, non-wingdam structure.
Was sure glad to get one last night of fishing in before the next week of cold, freezing weather moves out of the area….tight lines.
