Wow…was there a lot of cars and trailers in the lot last night. With the warm weather, it sure brought everybody out. The bite was rather slow to start, but we ended up strong after making some late evening adjustments.

Most every wingdam, had a boat on it and was getting hit pretty hard. We were getting some short hits, with quite some time that would lapse between the short hits. We fished for a couple of hours and got about 15 short hits and had no fish to show for it.

We began going through the colors, types of plastics and changed between 1/16oz to 1/8oz depending on the water we were fishing. Since the dams were getting hit pretty hard with fishing pressure, as well as always having boats and motors up in the shallow water disturbing the peace, we decided it was time for a change.
I noticed that there were always a lot of fish that were sitting in the 6-9 fow off the dams. Since the bite was slow up at the top and top edges of the dam breaks, we decided to try new water and leave the dams to be fought over with the plethora of boats on the water.

We began to work other breaklines, riprap and other structure and it was not too long afterwards that we began to get more and more hits which turned into finding more aggressive fish and solid hook ups. It was a task to find new areas to fish and always seems to burn up fishing time, but we sure glad we took the time to search new water and structure. We hooked into numerous 24″, 27″ and a personal best of 28.75″ that all hit up closer to shore on different, non-wingdam structure.

Was sure glad to get one last night of fishing in before the next week of cold, freezing weather moves out of the area….tight lines.

Good fish man!! I’ve gotten alot of walleye, sauger and saugeye as well as some good smallies and bucketmouth on non wingdam structure over the past few years on pool 2. I did find it alittle tougher this year though during the summer months. Didn’t notice the huge populations of shad that I’ve seen in the past.

First off, congrats on your PB P2 Walleye

Secondly, I applaud your efforts to find new water, new presentation techniques, and a different mindset with the plethora of boats on the water last night. By far the most I have seen in the 3 yrs I have fished P2 in the Fall. When we left the river at 1:00 AM there were rigs just going out and the lot was still alomost half full.

I was thinking the same thing last night and looking back we should have done what you did; give up on the highly pressured WD’s and find new water and different presentation techniques.

I know as I fish P2 more I will try and find different patterns other than rock piles and WD’s.

That’s an AWESOME photo and tank of a fish! Congrats for thinking “outside the crowd”.

    Very nice fish.

Yep lots of spots out there to catch fish on. Many of them that Im sure have never even seen a lure yet. Some of the spots this fall I bet have seen a boat on them every night for the last month or so and it does not surprise me that those fish are getting conditioned to the baits.

One good thing about people fishing all the usual spots is that it forces a person to go look else where and try new things. Sometimes you just need that little push to go do that.

Bet this cool down takes care of a lot of that boat traffic.

My guess would be very little. Water temps where in the 40s Wednesday evening. Would think it will take more than this to freeze up. Might just have to run down tonight with the boat and check it out.
