Hey guys just got my boat back from the shop the other day, I am itching to get out on the water. Was planning on heading to p4 tomorrow but my sidekick has to work now til later, so I amhoping to salvage a trip to p2 instead. ANY advice on where/how to get started would be much appreciated, I just want to get out there and have some fun and maybe get a couple picture worthy fish. I am in the shoreview area but honestly I know nothing about p2. Can I get some access suggestions? Thinking about probably just doing it simple with some jig/plastic combos. What do you think. Thanks in advance guys.

I’ve never fished it but I would start pitching some wing dams or find some current to work.

The pool 2 bite right now is a night bite. Not saying you can’t catch fish during the day, but it will not be like fishing pool 4. I would not recommend your first trip on pool 2 be at night.

The 494 ramp is the best ramp on pool 2. The dock is still in. Lots of parking. 494 to Hardman exit, then follow Verderosa (sp?) down to the river. You will see a public water access sign at Hardman and Verderosa. Once on the water, just stay between the cans and you won’t have any trouble.

I always send first timers up river to the airport/pigs eye area for starts. (About 2 miles upstream) The main channel and wingdams up there can always hold fish. Jigs/plastics or blade baits should put fish in the boat.

    Good Luck,

    -J.

Just about any landing on pool 2 should be good to go right now for launching boats. Lilydale and hidden falls will get you out on the upper part of the pool. Vertical jigging at the dam or confluence can be good this time of year.

Like Jon said 494 landing will be good for the middle part of the pool. Try vertical jigging at the airport or one of the outside bends in the river.

Lions Levee is good if you want to fish down south on the pool and get away from everyone. Here again maybe look at the out side bends int he river for jigging.

If you have never fished P2 you might want to get down there before dark. Pick a 1 mile section of river and take some of your time to scout it out. Find the wingdams, mark them and fish them 1st in the light if possable. When you come back at dark things will be way more visable in your mind. There are plenty of dams available and there is about zero current so most are holding fish. Just hope you find one with a # of fish feeding there. Your objective is to fish shallow areas (2-8 fow) adjacent to deep water (16+fow)and fish them slow
