No pictures (sorry ) but I will pass on some info…
This Nov trip has historically been a great trip for us Michigan Yoopers and this year was no different…. Many fish, as was the Oct trip…but larger average size…
The One Eye jigging spoons were BY FAR the top producer for all of us…I believe David Clement caught well over 100 Walleye/Sauger with the same Clown color One Eye!
We all caught nice fish and brought home eaters over 15” , mixed Sauger/Walleye. I believe my 24” Walleye was the largest landed, but Ron Hawkins had a PB monster almost to the net…only to get free… Not to mention Dave’s short lived, 100# Sturgeon battle… and Ronnie G’s Mystery Monster He fought for several minutes…Chef Mitch…your cuisine was MIND BOGGLING!!! (we all put on 5lbs).
The key for success was finding current…any current seemed to attract fish, as the flow has been low this fall.
Barge traffic has the low water stirred up and the reduced visibility lends to favor brite colors for presentation.
Most anglers were vertical jigging jig/minnow combinations around us with some success, but I observed the catch size to be predominately smaller sauger.
The trebles on a One Eye are scary sharp and I prefer to use a quality 6# mono on a 6’3″ MLXF rod…the small treble hooks tear out easy with too much pressure from braided line…Our friend Dave put on a clinic with that combo all week.
The water warmed up while we were there so I am guessing the big girls are still waiting for the major Shad migration from Pepin. I did enjoy some plastic action at dark thirty and early pre dawn in shallow water on both sides of the river.
Steve at Everts will fix you up and school you on the use of One Eyes
Steve and Kari, new managers, are are real BLESSING!
Their kindness and hospitality is outstanding…my little buddy Jimmy is awesome and responds well to a Reese PB cup…
This is a One Eye…deadly on the vertical presentation
