Was out there on Wednesday night and probably again tonight. Yep, it’s a little busier than normal…but no shortage of areas to fish. Lots of water to cover and lots of fish to find. I agree with Tim’s statement above. It would be nice if the morons with no common sense or courtesy just stayed home. Last thing I want to do is die fishing because of someone else’s stupidity. Be safe out there!

Been fishing it for over 20. Starting back when the 494 ramp was gravel! Probaly better shape now than ever. This is not the end of the world!

I wasn’t trying to make a contest out of it; only sharing my perspective. If you’ve been fishing it 20 years I can imagine you’ve seen some even more significant changes in the amount of traffic out there.

What worries me more is that boat or two running around with no lights on. That is a much bigger concern than someone sitting on a spot I may had wanted to fish.

That actually might be 1 word I’m not 100% but you get the point.

I apollogize for my reports in the past. I didnt know it made people mad giving the best detailed report as possible. Now i see why alot of my pm’s get ignored .. ive never caught more than 7 walleye in a trip. I have fished pool 2 for 20+ years but still cant find the walleye like everyone on here. I have learned a ton of good info here on this website. I appreciate all the advice i can get. I do thinks it kinda funny everytime i try and wave at a certain ido member on the water, he just stares me down like he wants to fight..

The Griz doesn’t post on IDO Ryan.

Hope that’s not me that keep driving by you. If it is it because Im thinking I should know that boat but for the life of me cant remember who it is. Somedays Im lucky not to forget my own name. Typically Im more than chatty out there and enjoy stopping to see how others are doing.

I was out last night and there were more than a dozen rigs at 494 when I drove by at 6pm

Then they put in after 5:30 and left before 9pm.

I hope those of you who do it are getting lots of pats on the back, or meeting lots of people at the boat launch who admire you, or accomplishing whatever goal you’re striving for.

Nonsense. No motives whatsoever. I just having fun.

But in the mean time the guys who actually fish Pool 2 on a regular basis get to deal with every idiot and his brother running around after dark on the river. And for what?

I fish down there on a very regular basis. I not seeing any problems.

John, so are you saying there is a big difference from me posting fish pics here (Where I keep in touch with my friends) and you posting your fish pics on Facebook? Please explain.

    -J.

    1. Honestly, I guessed more than 15 without actually counting but it was definitely more than 12 when I drove by.

    2. Your fun takes away from my fun. Also, what makes bragging to random people fun? I just checked, and IDO says there were 23 members and 115 guests online in the last 10 minutes. How many of them are your friends?

    3. You know I fish down there a lot, too.

    4. You and Mike and probably the only IDO people that I am connected with on Facebook. I do have a lot of friends that love fishing on Facebook (mostly muskie fishermen that don’t go near the river), so my pictures there generate a lot of emails from buddys in other places that I might not talk to all that often otherwise. That makes it fun for me to share the pics with them. More to the point, my Facebook page doesn’t change the traffic on the river, and I’m obviously not sharing any info with anyone I don’t know. Even still, I don’t even say “go throw a white moxie at the wingdams on Pool 2 – launch at 494 tonight!” And now that I’m thinking about it, I’m pretty sure I don’t even mention Pool 2 on my facebook page. Bottom line: it’s a controlled environment with no impact on my fellow Pool 2 regulars.

Let me end by saying that I can disagree with someone without it being personal. I’ve met Jon and think he’s a good guy, but I clearly disagree with him on this.

P.S. I don’t want anyone to think I’m the guy who stares people down. I like to think I’m a pretty friendly guy (when I’m not on IDO, at least)

I take a little bit different view of this. I think the more people who come to an understanding of what the river really is like the better. We’re really lucky, really blessed to have such a wonderful natural resource in our backyards. Besides the obvious good fishery, there are Deer and Otters and Beavers and Turkeys and tweety birds. It’s a treasure.

And if it gets ignored it will get all screwed up again as we know all too well. Most of my adult life the river was dead and worthless except for barge traffic. Today it’s an oasis!

The more people there are who treasure and respect the river the better. Even if it means I have to share it with them.

You are a friendly guy. Well, you haven’t hit me yet.

But you know John, every year when you (and very few others) start ranting about posting pictures and giving out too much information, all it does is draw attention to the post/thread. Remember 2 years ago when there were all of 30 boats on P-4 after dark.

    You’re methods are backfiring.

If nothing was said besides nice fish, congrats, it would be just another big fish picture.

Now I’m off to make sure the order of head lamps came in for the Iowa guys.

Come on, Rootski, where’s a cranky curmudgeon when I need one?

Brian, I don’t disagree with your point about bringing attention to the thread. You’ll notice I didn’t react this way to the first several posts of this nature. Maybe I should have tried to nip it in the bud back then and I wouldn’t be dealing with all the traffic right now.

There is nowhere close to as many fishing boats now as there were in the early to mid 90’s. Not uncommon to have well over 50 boats fishing from 494 to the airport. This was during the time when pool 2 was a super saguer factory. 100+ fish days were norm for a couple guys verticle jigging the channel.

I don’t think one person could shut down all the websites that were built on sharing fishing information and promoting the sport of fishing.

The friend thing is cute, Jon. Regarding the pressure of the early to mid-90’s, you’re saying the catch and release regulation shut down the fishing pressure? No kidding.

And Brian, let me offer you a new quote:

What’s good for IDO must be good for its members and their fisheries … right?

I didn’t say anything about the regs. You asked the question. My answer is 100% correct. There are less boats fishing pool 2 today than in 1995. The fishermen might be better at it, but there are far fewer doing it.

Replace IDO with all websites…and your close. You’re still young, and have time to figure it out.

Dang, I remember going over the 494 bridge in the late 80’s and looking at all the boats! Well over fifty in the channel on the weekends. That was on one side of the bridge.

Larry Bollig told me I should be down there. 60+ fish a day was normal for the average John. Should have gone. <sigh>

Hi guys. I’m heading down to Pool 2 tonite and I am a virgin to this body of water. I was hoping someone could help me please.

What bait should I use? What color? Where should I go? What time should I be there? Do you set the hook when you feel a bite? Should I turn my boat lights on when it gets dark? What is the limit on walleyes?

Thanks for any help you can give me. I really appreciate it.

I would recommend to admins this thread gets locked. This attitude of entitlement is making me sick.

It appears this thread has the potential to get out of hand.

Went from a nice fish pic to well….you can read.

I apologize, in a bit of a foul mood today and this post is out of character for me.

John, regarding the friend comment. I can say this without a doubt. Every person I know, keep in close contact with, hang out with, fish with today is a person I have met through this website. IDO, my family and the people I work with sum up every friendship I have. Would not change it for the world.
