….or Get Net, or White Moxie, or Wing Dam, or
Not a numbers night, but got a few nice fish to the boat. Can’t beat the weather. Lots of boats out – how did everyone do?
-J.
How about “lights on”? Come on guys turn your lights on! I swear to god the next boat I see flying down the river with no lights is getting rocks hurled at it and to the aholes that almost hit me on Tuesday night if I see your blue Lund again I’m punching you in the face!

Now we’re talking… Let me try:
Lotsa traffic
Busy wingdams
Formerly peaceful
What happened?

Gee I don’t know??? Maybe every day there’s 3 new posts with guys holding up big eyes? Hey do this here with this bait and you’ll catch this
So how many boats where out? 50? 100?
What ever it is it will be plus one more tonight because Im getting back on the water.
There were maybe 7-8 rigs out of 494 with 3-4 running up from Lions. 4 rigs left in the lot at 9pm. I didn’t think it was that bad for a 50 degree evening in Nov. Give it a week. The weather will sort out the men from the boys.

I think everyone posting on this board and I’m sure other places is what happened. When detailed reports, techniques, and pictures of big walleyes are continually posted pressure is going to increase. I’m not going to say that Pool 2 was a secret, but it did fly under the radar in the past. It does make sense when you think about it. Why the hell would you drive up to Mille Lacs when you can catch bigger fish on the river? It’s a great resource in the backyard of a metro area with > 3 million people. I’m really surprised it took this long for a lot of people to figure it out. I’m not trying to complain about this site, I think it is great and so are the people on it. It has however let the proverbial “cat out of the bag” on the great walleye fishing on pool 2. On the bright side with C/R all these nice fish can be enjoyed by many people. And for the fishing industry in general and love of the sport, I think it’s great to see people out enjoying the resource. Take someone fishing, grow our sport!
(but it does stink when there’s a boat sitting on your favorite wingdam!!!)

I can link you back to dozens of posts/reports from 2002 and on with pool 2 reports, pics and detailed how to. Nothing new going on here. More viewers? Sure. New to IDO, not a chance!

Cats Out of the Bag? Great segway!!
From 2005
From 2004
That was just a quick look…and you know? Those photos were taken at MY spots.
I’m sorry, it just makes me laugh when people feel it’s ok for them to catch fish, but it’s not ok for other.
Does this “club” have a secret handshake?
Its may seem busy by Pool 2 standards but take a few trips to mille lacs or pool 4 and see what it is like. A dozen boats for 20+ miles of pool 2. That is not busy.
What does seem it make it busy is these 12 boats are all trying to fish the same 15 or 20 spots. There are a lot more areas that hold fish than these community holes. I to would love to have all of these areas to myself but look at where we are fishing and chances are that is very unrealistic.
What worries me more is that boat or two running around with no lights on. That is a much bigger concern than someone sitting on a spot I may had wanted to fish.
Have also heard the bite has slowed down this week.

Jeff, after dark, just follow the sound of a barking Rottweiller!

are you referering to the summer of 2012 Vanity plate club.
I was out last night and there were more than a dozen rigs at 494 when I drove by at 6pm on my way to a different launch. On a Thursday night! And yes, I blame the guys that brag on IDO for it. I hope those of you who do it are getting lots of pats on the back, or meeting lots of people at the boat launch who admire you, or accomplishing whatever goal you’re striving for.
This happens every fall, but it seems to gets a little worse every fall. Pool 2 isn’t easy fishing and it’s getting cold so the traffic will fall off. But in the mean time the guys who actually fish Pool 2 on a regular basis get to deal with every idiot and his brother running around after dark on the river. And for what?
I know this is a perennial debate, and I know I sound like a grumpy old man. I can always run away from the crowds and fish other spots, but I go to Pool 2 to escape the crowds. I agree that I don’t own it, and everyone in the world has the right to fish it. The internet braggers just make my down time after work a little less peaceful I don’t appreciate it.

Those sure are some nice pool 4 fish Brian.
One was a P4 fish, the other P-2.
There’s a good P2 Report on the front page right now.
As someone who has been fishing Pool 2 for 12 years, I can say that it’s definitely gotten busier in the fall. The same thing happened when Steve put up his reports, but they would generate less than half of the traffic that the reports generate now. Plus, he didn’t post pictures with the St. Paul airport lights, or the 494 bridge in the background (have fun boys, and PM me for the specific spots if you want!). Jon and Brian, how does the IDO traffic these days compare to what it was 5 years ago?
I was one of the rigs in the 494 parking lot; got out just before sunset….we were one of rigs that left early. Many of my spots were not holding a lot of fish except for one. One spot had a lot of large walleyes hanging out in the 10-14 fow just off the shallow are of 3-5 fow. These fish were not active that deep and we played the waiting game for them to move up to shallow water, but it just wasnt happening as fast as I’d like and so by 8:00, I packed it up.
I know, I know…I left too early..but there were other indicators it was going to be a slower night…be back tonight for a much longer duration tonight though!!

Then they put in after 5:30 and left before 9pm.

I fish down there on a very regular basis. I not seeing any problems.
John, so are you saying there is a big difference from me posting fish pics here (Where I keep in touch with my friends) and you posting your fish pics on Facebook? Please explain.

Now that’s what I’m talking about!!
Thanks for sharing your hot spots John! Allowing others to have fun fishing is what it’s really all about…it’s not about ME.
