Fun Night on P2

Went out on P2 last night and it was as advertised!! The eyes are on the chew and aggressively smashing jigs and plastics.

Got out around 4 and did nothing until it got dark. Once I located some active fish it was game on!!

Nothing big for me tonight. All 17-24″. Was able to coax a fishing buddy out around 7 pm after some text messages from me and the fish I was catching.

Wind picked up out of the south and that always makes for interesting boat control. Had to size up the jigs in the wind last night.

Best colors were pink jig head, chartreuse silver flake solid core ringies or 4″ moxies (pictured).

Interesting tidbit that no one else has posted. None of our fish came off a wingdam. Found them dragging, then pitched to them once located!!!

Get out and enjoy the P2 bite. Cruise ship passing in the dark was an added bonus!!

Hopefully i can find the walleyes soon. Only got one more chance to find them before the boat is put away for winter. Tried pitching wingdams and shorelines with pulse r and could only find a few crappies. Any advice on what depths to target would be greatly appreciated.

I have the most success shallow. If I’m pitching to shoreline as I was last night, I’ll catch fish right off the bank all the way back to the boat.

I think people overlook the shallow stuff too often. Our best depth last night was the 6-8′ range. I also meant to add that jig size has been a big factor for me on P2. I started last night with 1/16th and went to 3/32 and finally to 1/8 and 1/4. You need to be ‘in contact’ with that jig and if the wind is going one way and the current the other, jig weight has to offset the wind. But, in low wind conditions, I’ll start with 1/16.

Do you have to pull in a 10 pounder EVERY time out Eric?

Nice report and fish big guy!

Perhaps if MN wasn’t diverting so much public money to stadiums, they could put some effort into creating a better P2 fishery!!

They should be ashamed that not only can I not keep the fish, but I also did not catch a 10 lber!!

We are just always polar opposites! I think P2 is an awesome fishery even though you can’t catch a 10 pounder each time out.

We have Pool 4 for munching on walleye fingers.

BUT we ARE finally on the same page as far as the stadiums go! I knew you would come around…even though it’s too late.

Nice report. The time change has given us a lot more after dark time for fishing before bedtime. I thought it was a farmer’s thing, but now I know the clock fiddling is for fishermen. Good luck out there!

Nice report Eric.. I have also found a few non wing dam rock piles that have held fish. I also hope to get back out there soon before things freeze up.
