Dad and I went out last Wednesday in pool 18 from Gladstone to Burlington area. We fished below the lock & dam on the Illinois side by the lock walls and caught one 2 pound catfish and a small sturgeon on a vertical jig tipped with a minnow. Jig color was orange with a green tail. We were in about 17 feet of water. No walleye or sauger yet. This time of year we have luck at night in the same area. Will post again when the bite turns on. We did catch a few white bass on the closing dams on the Iowa side. Most the fish were in the sloughs in the “V” of the closing dams. All white bass were caught on a blue/silver rattle trap.

I was out there too on Saturday. No Walleyes or Saugers for us either. The stripers kept us entertained along the lock wall pulling 3 ways with rapalas. Was sure a nice day out there.

Neil, good to hear from you. My boat just returned home from pool 8 so I will be starting in down here. Haven’t been on this pool since the first of April. Don’t know about this weekend but definitely next weekend. Haven’t heard of much off of the Illinois yet but if I do maybe we will have to take a trip there again.

Hey there John. Been Wondering about you. Wanted to get a hold of you this summer for ‘guide’ info up there but just didn’t work out. I’ll be off work for quite a few days coming right up, so, maybe we can get to gather out there – or on the Illinois. I’ll be in a different boat… the plate boat idea just didn’t work out for us. Brown V bottom with a Yamaha on it.

    I’ll be in touch!
