I do feel for the Pros this week they did face some very tough conditions. I have also heard just about enough bashing of how bad the fishing is in are area, it’s really pretty good. We fished today from 9:30 till 2:00, the bite was slow . With the stout Northerly winds and grass floating everywhere it was tough to find fishable areas. We ended up pulling 3 keepers and 2 “slot” fish off the few wingdams that were fishable. When the weather stabilizes and all the boats are gone we will get back are little stretch of the river. I guess we will just have to suffer through another Fall on a stretch of river that has no fish. Here are a few keepers from today.

I’m confused. Is the fishing good or is it poor?

I know exactly what you mean! At the weigh in I was gritting my teeth when the pros kept saying “the conditions werent right”… the conditions are fine, this is normal for us down here. Cold fronts every other day, weather swinging 40+ degrees, fish biting on and off. You just have to know where they are and adjust. I feel like the pros couldnt do this and just blamed the weather. Our weather is not stable here, I’ll give you that… but it happens all fall every year and we manage to catch plenty of fish. Its hard fishing until they school up tight and feed like crazy in late november, but its all normal.

I know the pros are great fisherman and know how to adapt, but I think this was a challenge they just couldnt beat and blamed the weather. Take notes, this is NORMAL for october fishing here in the QC for guys who are not on the water every day and know where the fish are.

The one pro even said the fish died off this summer… yeah you didnt catch any so they must all be dead.

You cant bring 50 guys from up north here and expect them to bring in 15lb+ bags.

Not sure who said there wasn’t any keepers in pool 14? I guess when the first day 25 of the 42 boats in the championship locked north to upper pools should tell you something. When given enough time in practice days yep I caught some nice fish. Now when you come out of the lock no wake area at about 9:30 and have to be back there by 12:40 at the latest it`s not much time trust me. That pool is 29 miles long and we can run just shy of a mile a minute by boat so one wrong choice and your pretty much done. Again 14 is a good pool we just had some odds stacked against us. I think I know pool four pretty well and I would not put very good odds on coming out of the Alma locks running north and being able to catch 5 fish of a specific size and getting back in that time frame. Pool 4 is arguably the best pool in the system. Tournament fishing is a whole different game then pleasure fishing so not much comparison there. I actually saw you out fishing several days while I was there I do believe and my hats off to the locals in that area very friendly and proud of your fishery . I only had one guy on the water I had to drive away from all week that was pretty sure I had no business being on his waters. I would defiantly fish 14 again.

I think the 100k had to do with contingency money, but Plautz doesn’t run an Evinrude so he missed out on the higher contingency money. Evinrude contingency was 15k and I believe they said on the live weigh-in that Mercury was 5k. That would have put him at 95k, so I’m not sure where the extra 5k was taken off.

my money was on a guy grinding out sylvan slough to be honest. i assumed that prefishing was pretty spread out. the locals that fished with the pros all said that the big fish were spread out. i assumed if you could avg 4 18″‘ers a day you’d be in good. there are always decent fish up there. we are a bit early for a good push up there but fish are always in that discharge. a guy would either win that way or by catching 2 or 3 overs. i thought jason was going to have a few overs throughout but i guess he went a different way on sunday.

Jig Fan is right. I have been having no problem getting my limits of 15 to 20 inchers. Some days are slower than others but the push is on. Just ask Fishbait, he knows how good the fishing has been. Every year we have to deal with the grass or high dirty water. I’m likin this low clear water. The Saugers are on the move and the big Walleyes are hungry. I start my vacation next week and I can’t wait. See you out there!!!!!
