So who else doctors up there walleye plastics to get that just right color?

Today is plastic cooking day for me. So far in the works are Pearl blue salt and pepper Moxies and Pulse Rs. Next is Cotton Candy Moxies and Pulse R’s. Might come up with a few other colors this after noon to. Was looking at a pile of Stewarts pro blue that look like they could use some color to.

My recipe for the Pearl blue salt and pepper Moxies and Pulse R’s is one bag of Oystershell plastics. fill 1/4 to half full with water and let set 3 to 5 days in warm place or until you get desired milky color. Do not over cook them or they will bubble.

Cotton Candy Moxies or Pulse R’s Im still working on a bit. So far its again start with oystershell plastics. Take a pink highlighter and start coloring. Throw these in a bag for a few days to let the color set and should be good to go. There is lots of potential for variation on this. Try starting with fire cracker plastics and try red or orange markers on them. Think you could easily add a chartreuse tail to just about any plastic you wanted with this method to.

Anyone else making their own colors. I know some guys like to cut and paste different bodies together. Thinking next Im going to have to come up with a motor oil Moxie and Pulse R.

Mike, what if you took the “dye tube” out of the marker then squeezed a few drops of dye out of the tube into your bag of plastics and mashed it around?

I custom color mine too, but mine are a little more complex… It involves liquid plastic, molds, injectors, and dyes.

here is one with a purple head, peanut butter and jelly body and a pink and white tail. wish i could do diff colors horizontally. i think a dark top with a white bottom would be killer.

Some days they really want contrast in the baits. That would work great on those days Ryan.

Im pretty sure if I broke apart a marker and tried squeezing the ink to the plastics bag that the first things that would change color would be my hands and most everything else that was around me. maybe some drops of food coloring in the bag might work.

    ditto….fun stuff.

Mike….try putting a couple MisterTwister transparent chartreuse twister tails in a package of the oystershell. Hang it in a dark closet for a few days and mix the plastics up again by squeeezing them around together without opening the package. After a couple of weeks you’ll end up with a real soft chartreuse pepper opaque.

Spike-It products can help you guys out with coloring factory plastics. Some people dip the plastics in the dye, others do well by using an artist brush.

    Mike –

Interesting. There is a certain Kalin’s bait that is especially DEADLY when allowed to sit between a moist towel for about 2 days.

It totally changes the color to something that the Walleyes and Smallies just can’t seem to ignore….

I thought I was the only won that likes to “fade” baits.

28″ eye on a cotton candy moxie this afternoon plus a lot of other walleyes. Guess doctoring up that color worked.

Yep. Couple of very simple method as mentioned above. Markers, dips, soaking in water or cutting and either gluing or melting them back together.

Just looked at my oystershel moxies that I soaked in water yesterday. Turned milky color in one day and are ready to go. The color now looks similar to pearl blue salt and pepper K grubs.

Mike, it could just be me but my pulse-r to moxi fish cathing ration is like 10-1. For some reason the pulse-r’s just seem to out produce the moxi and I have no idea why.

Thats interesting Dave. Just the opposite for me. Just not feeling the Pulse Rs much yet this fall. Im sure they will come on in my boat sooner or later.

So my oyster shell moxies dried over night and turned back to original color. Have not had that happen before. Then again have never had them turn milky over night either. Usually take 2 to 3 days.

Next question. Has anyone ever played around with injecting air into your plastics to adjust the sink rate? Im down to 1/16 ounce jigs in some areas with them all ready casting up into a foot or two of water. Going lighter jig weights starts to effect the ability to cast a great distance. next choice is to maybe take a worm blower and out a small BB size shot of air into them.

What funny guys is that we are catching plenty of fish right out of the packages with these plastics. Guess its just in our nature to keep trying new stuff and maybe there is that magic tweak that will be the Holy Grail of fish catching. Well at least for one night anyways.
