Saugers???? Go Bigger!

What an afternoon! We were catching smallish saugers left and right and then she hooked bottom.

    Then, the bottom moved.

Daughter Hannah tied into the biggest fish I’ve ever put in my boat. Using her St. Croix Triumph 6 foot lite rod with 4 lb test, she hooked–in the mouth–a 43 inch sturgeon! She fought the beast for 30 minutes ALL on her own.

The beast jumped three times and dove for bottom countless times. It circled the boat once too.

I did my best to net it and nearly failed–twice! I thought my wife was going to beat me if I failed to boat it, so I nearly went into the water to cradle it into the net.

We finally boated it and Hannah shook with joy. After pics, she petted it and said she was sad to see it go back but wanted others to catch it. We named it “Stubby” since it had no tail.

If you catch Stubby some day, post the pic. Here’s to making memories with your kids!

Nice writeup!!! So there were boats on 4 today. Guess I’m not fishing upstream far enough.

That’s awesome. I am sure she won’t forget that any time soon!

While reading it and learning you had a hard time netting it, I was going to suggest to land it by grabbing the tail. I found out that wasn’t an option!
