Downriggers with red sudden death hooks/crawler and a hair jig behind it.
Welcome to Ido Erick!
October 18, 2012 at 4:34 pm #1106031As you are inexperienced with the river, I would recommend that you park your Subaru Brat at Evert’s, go in and introduce yourself to BK, and ask for 3 or 4 of his best minnows. You should then proceed to walk the shoreline up to the dam. BK will glady give you directions if needed. When you do get to the dam, you will want to remove one of the minnows from your pocket, attach it to your largest hook (also removed from your pocket), and once ready to cast your Zebco 303, haul back and launch your 4″ bobber as far out into the scour hole as possible. Don’t worry about that old line on the 303. That stuff lasts for decades. Please post results with pictures as I am excited to see the results. Oh yeah, welcome to IDO and good luck in the tourney. If you need more advice, feel free to ask.
October 18, 2012 at 4:40 pm #1106035I would hire this guy as a guide ….

October 18, 2012 at 4:41 pm #1106038Oh, he’s fishing the tourny? I was just going to tell him to hit the MN River if he wanted lots of sauger.
October 18, 2012 at 4:42 pm #1106040I hear a 0ne-eye with a half a crawler pitched to heavy rock cover on the South end of pool 4 has been tearing up the saugers Good luck and let us know how you do

What night? I’m open.
October 18, 2012 at 4:47 pm #1106043Don’t forget the ole favorite:
5 of diamonds daredevyle tipped with 3 waxworms on each treble hook. Almost like putting-er in automatic!
Good luck to all you guys!
I’ll be checking the reports as always to see what was caught.October 18, 2012 at 4:49 pm #1106044Great to hear all these tips. I’m now foreseeing an easy limit for my boat in the tourney…just gotta finish up installing my downriggers so I can get down deep on the flats
October 18, 2012 at 4:58 pm #1106048Only need to use 5 pound balls.
Ocean, if you need more balls, see Erick. He has extra large balls.
October 18, 2012 at 5:23 pm #1106053I’ve been told my ball size was sufficient but if 5 pounders are needed, I might have to talk with Erick at the tourney. That is all I have on that topic.
October 18, 2012 at 5:30 pm #1106055Don’t look at the background.
…and what idiot would use leadcore this time of year?
October 18, 2012 at 6:13 pm #1106066with all this talk about downrigger balls it reminds me….I know the bait shop is opening early on Saturday but not being much of a coffee drinker is there hot water on site for me to dip my tea bag into the start off the day fresh and ready?
October 18, 2012 at 6:16 pm #1106068Erick should be easy to find. I am willing to bet that he is the only one walking the WI shoreline towards the dam and looking like he is lost.

Yes, Tom. Great advice. I can’t believe I forgot.
October 18, 2012 at 8:30 pm #1106114I caught this fish last week on Pool 11. So, I hope the bite is as good up there as down here. This was caught on the 1/2 oz. floater and willow cat.
October 18, 2012 at 11:12 pm #1106143The bites great, just cant say where! Have to keep some secerts for the tournament.
October 19, 2012 at 12:56 pm #1106239BK saw a wintering school of them with his aqua view by the scour hole last winter! No joke!
October 19, 2012 at 1:23 pm #1106250Speaking of no joke, Erick are you going to be fishing all day or are you planning on coming in early…to see me, again?
