Check out my “pool 4 report” on the homepage. Believe it or not, fishing was pretty good today. Yes, there were a few boats out in this sleet/rain/snow. James Holst was out guiding and did pretty well today. I believe he is gonna put a report on tonight. The ramps were in good shape today. Although they’re gonna need a little work in the morning as it is freezing rain right now. Good Luck all.

PS….the river is on the rise. Not sure how much it came up today, but it was very noticeable on my docks……just FYI.

The fishing was really good today! I was James’ guid-ee. Won’t steal his thunder, but I have to say, I’ve never seen quite so many 7″ walleyes put into a boat (mostly the guide). At one point, I was wondering if James was perhaps a cradle robber. Those poor little fish never had a chance!

I’m still thawing out from the day’s activities, but I have to say, it was a much better day being out on the river watching the ice make pretty little patterns on our poles than my best day actually working. Good company and it was great to meet you, Steve.

Glad to see you made it home Mike. I bet you had an interesting drive! I’m glad you had some good luck today. It wasn’t the best day to be on the water weather wise, but when they’re biting, the weather doesn’t seem to matter too much. You know they’re biting, when 7 inch fish are hitting 4 inch baits!!! Cya later.

    Hey Mike

I am the 7″ walleye KING after yesterday! That one little area was just loaded with them little buggers. Last spring’s spawn sure looks like it was a huge success.

Here’s the link to the report from yesterday where you can get a look at the pic Steve took for us. Thanks Steve!

I’m glad to hear things are on the rise. We had a lot of moisture here in the Cites lately. Maybe there will be water moving this spring after all.

Does head color make a difference when fishing jigs naked and all dressed up like a June bride. I notice a lot of very nicely tied jigs with bare heads.

Was out Sun – Tues and ran into those 7″ers you are talking about James. Hea Gundy, I was trying some different colors and ended up with a bare leadhead, no color , no plastic, and got away from last years hatch for the most part. Picked up fewer fish but they were bigger. My partner pretty much is set on only vertical jigging so I spent alot of time messing around with different combinations. Still only picked up four that were 17+. When the bite is slow spend your time trying new things. Luck to ya!

Gundy, I just read your post and have to comment. If you look at the picture on James’ report on pool 4, you’ll notice that his head is somewhat light in color and mine is very red. I didn’t catch as many fish as James, but it didn’t occur to me until just now that head color made a difference. Also, as far as bare heads go, the same thing is true. Mine is quite bare and James has lots of hair. Maybe I should have worn a wig.

On a more intellectual note, I wound up using a green/orange jig head and James had a gold sparkle one. I got the biggest sauger of the day. But all in all, it didn’t seem to matter a whole lot.
