Another hairy question.

I know when hair jigs were first developed they were almost always fished w/o bait, but I just can’t bring myself to fish them very long w/o putting a fathead on there. Which way do you think works better, baited or naked? Thanks. Bret

There are times when naked is the only way to get bit! I personally fished naked most of last year…

Funny you don’t get a ticket for fishing naked. I’ve used both ways depends on what the fish want. I start without then switch if nothing happens. Jim

normally always use minnows then if we are runnin low on them we will try without and if we are catching them that way we will stick to it

I start out with plain hair and if that doesn’t get em then I’ll add bait to it. At times they will jump all over a plain hair jig and then there are times they insist on some real meat on that hook. The fish will tell you what they want. Bill

I have used and tied jigs along time. I have spent considerable time fishing jigs both naked and well dressed. From the experience I have, I perfer to dress my jigs especially while fishing lakes. But I have always tied my jigs to be dressed with sparse hair and short. River fishing which is new to me has reopened up the book on jig tying for me. I tied streamer type jigs when I first started tying these things because the only thing I could relate to where streamers and the old bermuda jigs. Now I have tied a whole passal of these stearmer type jigs. I am very anxoius to try them in lake situations both naked and dressed. In lake fishing 90% of my jig fishing is trolling and rip jigging. Starting to fish the river I have had to learned to slow down my presentation and be more creative as there are a lot more situations in the river. another 2 cents worth.

I try them without first….. if that dont work… then I will tip them….. but there are some places and times I just KNOW I HAVE to have them tipped.. so I try that first…..

its just less mess and sometimes more effective if you dont have to use bait….

I never use bait on a hair jig. I wonder what happens when a ringworm slides on their though? Hum?

Thanks for the replys guys. I guess I’ll have to try them naked a little more this season. I tye my own and have a bunch of new colors and patterns to try, so I guess I just need to have a little more faith in them. Hard to break old habits and ways of thinking though. Thanks again. Good luck this spring, that is if the snow ever stops coming. Bret
