I have plans to troll cranks as the season progress and am looking to buy some equipment to do it properly. There was an add in my Outdoors news yesterday from Cabela’s that had the Daiwa Accu-Depth reel and rod for $60. Looking to get set up but yet not to make a huge investment, this seemed like a decent deal. Also, what planer boards are good to use?

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Diawa Accudepth and have been really happy with it. It’s not quite as smooth as the Sealine reels, but I’ve had no trouble. Fleet Farm had them on sale a week ago for $41.99 for just the reel, so $60 for the combo seems pretty good as long as the rod isn’t junk.
I use the Off-Shore brand planer boards with the “Tattle Flag” on them. I like them a lot and I know they are pretty popular with the folks on this board. The tattle flag is a spring loaded flag that goes down if you snag a weed or have a small fish on. It’s nice to have so you aren’t dragging something around without knowing it.

You will like the Off-shore planer boards. Easy to see and use. A line counter reel will let you get back to the same length of line out that you had out when you caught the first fish so your lure is running the same as before. Welcome to the site.

Check out Fishing Tackle Outlet in champlin. I picked up a couple of sealines from them with rods for $79.

I use 7ft. St. Croix Premier Med. fast rods and 8.6ft. St. Croix WildRiver Med fast rods. All are baitcaster style rods. I will use a mix of Abu Garcia reels and Okuma Line Counter reels along with Marada Line Counter reels too.
    Thanks, Bill
