Pool 2 this week.

Have gotten a couple of trips in on pool 2 this week so far and the bite has been pretty decent. Water levels are a little low for this time of year and the clarity has improved a lot from the high water a week or so ago. This has made for some decent fishing conditions.

Most of my usually tactics are producing walleyes right now it just seems to depend on the day or time of day as to what the fish prefer. Long line trolling crank baits in the 6 to 10′ depths seems to be the most consistent bite. Casting crank baits is a good bet to. On some spots following up the crank baits with jigs and live bait has been a good way to squeak another fish or so off the spot. Its pretty typical for this time of year that if Im not pitching a variety of baits into a spot there is a good chance active fish are getting left behind.

Numbers have been decent for the couple of half day trips this week. Think we had close to 20 on Sunday and around 15 walleyes this morning. Lots of mid sized fish coming in with a few in the mid 20s. Might have to bring some minnows with this weekend to see if I can get a few more of the bigger fish to go.

The bonus of the trips this week has been the eagle chick watching. As usual there are plenty of eagle to watch on pool 2. Been keeping a eye on one nest that has a couple of chicks in it. The chicks are pretty big right now and with the stronger winds this week are getting those wings flexed out. Would imagine it wont be long before they take that first leap. I have to wonder that today we noticed one adult eagle spending the morning on a branch well below a nest and couldnt figure out why it was down there. They always sit in the nest or above them. Maybe a chick had taken a leap all ready?

Ill be staying in town this weekend and spending some more time on the river. If anyone is interested in a trip on pool 2 give me a shout. The bite should still be pretty good this weekend.

Hopefully this rain doesn’t muddy things up to much.

I think some muddying up is now a foregone conclusion after the last few hours. WOW has it been coming down!

Should be interesting to see how this rain effects the water. From what I can see online right now, looks to have already come up 2ft in a 24hr period…

I had a pretty good bite going Tuesday and while I like flow, I hope it doesnt come up too much. Should make fishing this weekend interesting

She is coming up quick. Hopefully, the rain a couple weeks ago took care of a majority of the loose top soil. Also, the vegetation that is starting to come up in the fields will hopefully slow down the run off, and keep the river a little less muddy. That might be wishful thinking though.

Looking forward to a little increase in flow on the river. Levels earlier this week seemed pretty low for this time of year.

For sure. The forecasts are always a little behind. With the rain that we got this morning, it will be interesting to see what the forecast is later tonight.

The river coming up is fine, especially on pool 2, as long as we don’t get that chocolate milk thing going on. I’ve got alot of good high water spots. If its bad i’ll be heading to Mille Lacs.

We were just through this a couple weeks ago and this time will be no different beside the amount of water up through the northern miss watershed. I dont mind the clarity issue but not a fan of big deadheads floating at night. We are up for another round of rain this weekend so the high water might stick around a little longer. That would be nice. Those fish will spread back out till the river tops off. I cant wait myself. I am out of town this weekend but hope to be down there Monday night chasing kitty cats. Good luck down there guys!

I went down this morning before the storm, the water clarity was 3 inches with a orange jig, and there is alot of debris floating i was looking forward to some river fishing, I think I’ll hit the Croix instead.

Looks like pool 2 if far from coming up yet. The forecast this morning says moderate flood stage by next weekend. Looking forward to this.
