What will the conditions be on P2 for Saturday as far as river height?? Would like to go there to get away from the crowds.

Also, having a hard time with the river gauge website for P2. Still isn’t clear to me. Could anyone post a link and how to graph it. It’s not as clear as the USGS website.

    River Gages – SSP

This is the site I use. I was out yesterday and Pool 2 was kind of a mess. Muddy and lots of junk in the water. Lots of wood, some of it very big. Be Careful this weekend!

Thanks for the feedback and link…I am not crazy about dodging big trees on P2 as it look like it will peak Fri/Sat.

Maybe we will look for plan B.

Flow is up on pool 2. I have been watching the extra debris.

Very dangerous on p2 might as well stay away 100 foot tall trees in the water everywhere plus some kid at the SSP launch told me that the walleyes quit biting now..

Didnt see any trees coming down yesterday. Been a few years since seeing any floating by. They are fun to see but as far as being to dangerous I dont know. Just drive around them.

I would agree with the kid at the landing. Not even a bump from one yesterday. Cant believe getting skunked in may on the river. My guess is the slow walleye bite will be very short lived and they will be on the chew again very quickly.

The only willing biters I did find yesterday where a couple of crappies.

Pool 2 is pretty much mud soup right now. I have been out the last two days with limited success. Navigation is ok, you just have to really pay attention to where you are going. The river is set to crest on Saturday, so after that the debris should become less prevalent.

Unless I get a better offer…I’ll be launching at the lake on Saturday and fishing some haunts down there. Conditions are challenging right now with the flow, debris, and mud…but fish have to eat or they die right? Its a beautiful time to be on the river…last night brought out the eagles, deer, a bullsnake, and a beaver. There was also a nice looking brunette floating down the river in a bathtub sized flatbottom too…but that is another story.

A nice looking brunette that had a flat bottom the size of a bathtub? Huh?

I don’t know what I’m doing this weekend, maybe go fly fishing somewhere and wait for the river to settle down.

Got a feeling it may be cotton wood weekend on pool 2. Looked like the seeds where starting to drop yesterday. Fish where hitting them on the surface to. Cotton wood seeds sure can mess up a good bite down there. Gets old real fast picking cotton of your line.

Maybe May flies will be right after that.

Yup – the water was already getting covered last night. A small little swivel a couple feet above the you main snap takes care of this.

I was out this morning and will “second” what everyone else said about pool 2 right now. My take from today is, fish not biting, water like chocolate milk (could first see a chartreuse crank 6″ down), trees still going down along with tons of smaller stuff, current running at about 4 mph and the level was at the top of the ramp at 494. Though it was a nice morning to be on the river.

I have not been out so much this year and believe what you guys are saying. Can get tough. Beyond those fish spreading out down there they are still eating!!! Don’t believe they just shut down anyways. Do something different is all I can say. Wont be able to troll cranks upstream and keep them in the zone but try down stream! You dont even have to really put it in gear once that bait is in contact with the bottom and it will stay there. Sure cuts down on the “collective crap” issue. Worst case and you could even vertical jig
I really should not chirp in but I would bet 100.00 bucks that someone will figured out something and kick the snot out of them somewhere. When the water changes as quick as it has it always takes time for the fish to set up. My guess is that they are moving more and at time as confused as we are. What they need is food! Your odd are better trying to figure that one out than the eyes right now. Then its just a game of hide and go seek!! Can be lots of fun when you get it right.

I will be out Sat AM after a few weeks off. Plan will be to avoid the Walleye skunk on opener which I thought would not be a problem but Should have avoided reading this thread. Will be pitching/vert jigging current seams with Pearl power bait and a back up container of crawlers.

Looking forward to the high water as there will be more seams last outing 3 weeks ago it was very hard to find a decent seam.

Good luck to everyone going out this weekend.

Pool 2 is really tough right now.. lots of them logs and sticks collecting in certain areas.. should make for nice structure when the flow and high water calm down.. the eyes have been coming in the backwaters at night.. jig and minnow pitched right up to shore by rocks..

I got out for 3hrs today and got my butt kicked – I’m sure they’re goin’ somewhere, just not where I fished.

Water clarity is still very very poor.
