What I learned on Pool 2 Today

So I’m set up on a wingdam today when I saw a milk crate floating by. Those things are incredibly useful and this one looked like it was in decent shape. So I threw the crankbait at it and somehow managed to snag it on the first attempt. That’s when I found out that a snagged milk crate in current pulls like one of the Ingram company’s tug boats! I had to throw the bail open, pull the anchor and chase it down river.

Fishing was decent from sunup until about 8AM. Crankbaits out on the tips of the wingdams produced an occasional Walleye and one big Sauger.

Great info! After the rain today and forecasted for the weekend, we may have to move in a bit on the wingdams, no?

Corey I tried in and out on several different dams today and all the fish I found where way out on the tips. That might have had something to do with the bright sunlight all morning too. The river is definitely up, the flow is much better and there’s a prodigious amount of junk in the water (leaves, sticks, plastic bottles, milk crates). It’s going to have to come up quite a bit more to affect location I think.

I think last year at this time we had 3 to 4 more feet of water than there is now. That had them pushed towards shore. Some may move in with this little flow but agree that it shouldnt move them a lot. Should make the fishing better.

5am. Guess that means its time to go find out. Good luck this weekend.

Wait… you mean to tell me sunup isn’t at 8am??
