The tourney has been moved. I used a vacation day today and pre-fished 11 hrs , to get back to the ramp and find out the tourney has been moved. Need less to say I was not a happy camper. I guess the tough bite and poor water clarity was the reason for the move. I’m not sure that is a good move , because the bite was pretty good for us today. I’m not going to badger the tourney director to bad , because that is a tough job. I know I wouldn’t want to do it. I guess I’m just a little disappointed , I think we would of had a good tourney.

Hmmm…I’m not a tourny guy and have zero experience with them…so I’m asking the question.
I could see moving a tourny if there were low water levels and there was safety issue, but because of a tuff bite? Or low water clarity??
I thought these tournies were to highlight the anglers that could “put it together” no matter what?
I’m not ripping on anyone, just asking the question.
May 3, 2012 at 2:50 pm #1065243Most of the guys that fish this circuit fish the Illinois River. If you have ever fished the Illinois you know that there are no secret spots, just follow the rest of the boats to find the fish. I heard a few teams fished on 14 last week and couldn’t find any fish. You can take it from there. I feel for the guys that booked rooms in advance and took the time off from work. Well I’ve said enough.

Even on Pool 4, the longest Pool of the Mississippi at 44 miles, that could be said.
Again, I’m not trying to start anything. Just trying to understand how this works.
I’m not sure how tourney’s are run down there with the DNR’s but a change up here would require a new permit.
If I’m asking a question that shouldn’t be answered in public, shoot me a pm.
cupspitsPosts: 308May 4, 2012 at 12:15 am #1065461Brian i am extremely salty felt i had a chance put the work in and pre fished for two weeks and spent lots of money on gas. So a bunch of whiners cry cause they cant catch fish so they change it not coool three days before a tourney is bs i tried spring valley today caught some fish but not enough to donate to the whiners who can only fish one place
May 4, 2012 at 1:01 am #1065470The reason I was fishing the champ was because it was on 14. I still went on with my plans and fished 14 today. The river is “alittle” dirty but not any different than the Illinois. My outlook on the whole thing is its Adams call. Its tough to be a director and your decsions never please everybody. Could the tourney be held in 14? Yes it could have, I fished miss river tourneys and have gone out in a lot worst conditions. The decsion has been made and there is nothing we can do about it.
cupspitsPosts: 308May 4, 2012 at 1:10 am #1065473Correct its his decision but a bad one changing a tourney three days before is stupid there would of been fish caught. To be honest im not even gonna say what i truely think is going on cause its not worth it but i have never heard of a tourney being moved three days before not going in detail but it seems political to me thats why i asked for a refund my money my choice to fish or not i will be on 14 i bet i catch more weight then the winner does on the illinois.
May 4, 2012 at 4:20 pm #1065653Tournament on the Illinois is CANCELLED! Flash flooding is the cause.
cupspitsPosts: 308May 7, 2012 at 3:37 pm #1066274I was on the river all day Sat. and the flash flood must have snuck around me. Granted I was concentrating on fishing and not watching for a wall of water.
Too bad too because I know that there was going to be some local media planning on covering the tournament. I texted them Sat. morning when I noticed that there were only 2 trailers at the Albany ramp at 7:00.
Some much for a “State Championship”.
May 7, 2012 at 4:06 pm #1066286Pool 4 experience a significant rise in water between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
The Bluff tourny went well despite the high winds (in the morning) and the rising water levels.
Flash Flooding? Boats float…right?
I don’t know the tourny director and I’m the last guy to second guess any director. Just wondering the though process for the day I have to change a walleye tourny.

This has been driving me crazy for the past few days that these comments and concerns that have been made on this site have been left unanswered. I am new to this site and relatively unfamiliar with how things work on here? I am not trying to hide nor am I ignoring any of your comments. To those of you who truly know me, know that I am not that type of person.
This is my first season operating the Illinois Walleye Trail and I guess you could say there is a bit of learning curve in any new endeavor in life. While it may be my first year running tournaments I have competed in walleye tournaments on nearly every level since I was sixteen. Having experience as a competitor and an operator are two totally different things.I sincereley made my decision based on the overall quality of water knowing that it was going to get worse based on the weather that we had experienced last week and what was to come. Good or bad decision….it’s the decision I made and I have to live with it. All I can do at this point is put both feet forward and focus on making this right in the future.
As far as moving it back to Spring Valley for my or the core IWT angler’s benefit is far from the truth. My goal is to expand the IWT and take the trail to other locations. That was the whole premise of having the championship out there. It was just a viable option at the time because the Illinois River (pre-flood) was in decent shape.Again, to those that were affected by my decision I am very sorry for your troubles and hope that I will get an opportunity to make it right to you.
Please feel free to call or write with any questions or concerns. I will be happy to answer them.
Sincerely,
Adam Sandor
