Report from 4/23-4/25
Techniques used: Pitching jigs, dragging jigs, 3-ways/bait, and trolling
This week I had the opportunity to fish with a very good friend of mine with the sole purpose of finding fish in preparation for LPO this past weekend. Our game plan consisted of splitting our fishing time into presentations. Tuesday the plan was to cover water with our pitching and dragging gear. What we found was that the fish were more than cooperative on jigs and crawlers. The fish are moving back toward the lake and their usual haunts for late spring are already holding fish. The key was to target shallow water current seems fishing in 7-12 fow. Our top colors were black and orange jigs. Our big fish for the day were a beast of a 9.6lb eye and a 5.2lb eye(pictures 1 and 2).
Wednesday we headed out with the same idea of covering water and loaded to the teeth with 3-ways and my new trolling gear(details below) we headed out. The game plan was to find fish with the trolling rods and come back with 3-ways once we had them pinpointed. Being that it was prefishing we never spent to much time in one spot if we found fish and again we found the fish willing to cooperate. We caught fish on both presentations with about equal success. The top crank-bait color was by far blue flicker-shads and cabelas real image in the #5 size. Big fish honors went to my buddy for the day boating a 6.9lb and a 4.7lb eye(pictures 3 and 4)
Friday was spent with my dad checking spots and you all saw BK’s post about how that went…me tearing up a prop but we found the same results as earlier in the week. LPO was a lot of fun and a big thanks to everyone that put it on.
Rod Review
I recently added some new limit creeks to my collection of rods, I’ve had a couple of the LCSE83MLF rods for a couple of years now and love them for blades and dragging so I was very excited to try out my new rods and all I can say is wow. I was very impressed with the LCS69MLF rod nicknamed the smoothie. I spent Tuesday “getting a feel” for it and pitching it is fantastic. It has the sense of feel of a much more expensive rod for a much lower price. The sense of feel on it is fantastic and I can’t stress it enough. I paired it with a pfluger President 30 series and its balanced perfectly. Another point I found very appealing was the overall weight of the rod, its extremely light. I hardly noticed that I cast it all day and favored it over my other rods that I’ve had for years.
Now the trolling gear, I’ve been looking for a good set of trolling rods that wont break the bank for awhile now and I’ve found them. The LTC212MHF rods are 12ft long which gets the bait away from the boat causing less tangles, my favorite part, on sharper turns. Again I was amazed at the weight of the rods or lack there of and fighting fish was a breeze on them. The length and action blended perfectly and you can tell a lot of thought and testing went into these rods.
I also got a set of the LCT50MHM, when dad saw them he kept calling them a “cute” little rod and the rod fishes as good as it looks. They packed a lot of rod into a little package and anyone looking for a leadcore rod or a set of short rods for inside lines these are perfect. Very sensitive even with leadcore you can pick up on the tiniest blade of grass on your crank.
All rods can be found at Limit Creek Rods
Good luck to everyone and tight lines
