I haven’t been to P4 in about a month but the last time I was there I found a very good white bass bite pitching a Pulse-R on the rocks up by the dam after dark. I didn’t get there until about sunset so I don’t know if they were biting good during the day or not. The fish were running about 14″ – 16″.

Thinking about heading down again either today or within the next couple of days. I would like to get my boy into some white bass so a fast paced bite would be great if we can find one. Curious if anyone knows if the white bass were still around and what types or structure and baits are working. White bass are a blast!

    Thanks in advance,

they are not bad at all. that is as long as you cut off all the dark meat.(FAT) just eat the white meat and they are good to go…..

as mentioned, trim the mud line and red meat off the filet. Pretty good table fare if you get that off of them.

I can confirm that they are a great fish to eat. I don’t eat many stripers out of cold water (which is when any fish is at their best)because I’m usually catching walleye and sauger. I do keep them in the summer time if I’m looking for a fish fry and it’s very very important to throw them directly on ice. A striper won’t live in a livewell or on a stringer and the meat starts to go soft in a hurry.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to stay closer to home and fish P2 in the late afternoon/evening. Ended up with five walleyes between 16″ – 22″, a smallie, and a white bass fishing wingdams. The St. Paul Park launch was about as busy as I’ve ever seen it. It really seemed like there were a lot of guys bass fishing.

Made it down to Everts on Monday evening with a buddy and fished for white bass on the rocks up around the dam and locks until a little after dark. We ended up with about 17 white bass in the 14″-16″ range, about 5 sheepies, a smallmouth and a northern.

We tried plastics for the white bass but only caught sheepies on them. All our white bass were caught on Rattle Traps, shallow diving Shap Raps, or 1/8 oz. blade baits. A medium speed, steady retrieve seemed to work best. I thought we would have caught a walleye or two but didn’t luck into any of those.
