Means that you don’t generate a wake with your boat in this zone. I would expect new folks to the river to be green on this subject, but active website, river guys and advertised, wrapped, professional boats? Really???

When there are a single file line of trucks waiting to use the ramp. Don’t cut in front because you are physically able too. The next time I might be concerned about your mental health/welware and call the USCG and ensure your Captain’s license is valid. I’d hate to see dementia setting in, because it is no laughing matter.

Is is ill-advised to forcefully cut your boat on another’s drift, that immediately interrups that persons fishing and creating evasive manuevers. In certain areas of the river, like Hay Creek, there are sand bars that one can get hung up on. Getting hung up on sand bars is hard on props and does chew the water impeller

What ramp are you referring to?

The third point of your thread is a little confusing,,,can you elaborate on that as well?

The entire month of April is nothing but one tourney after another on P4. I’m sure Gary’s comments will be eco’d many times over the next few weeks as the money making pressures of catching a fish overtake the normal courteous, polite, and neighborly undertones that everyone is used to. …I’m not making excuses. Just saying.
(And “NO,” I’m not tourney fishing this season, so I have no stake in the game.)

I find that the river regulars are curtious. However I fish many other places and never had people anchor or drift 10 ft or less away and think nothing of it. Anchor between me and shore to where I am casting. The river brings out the worst in ettiquette. IMO

Valid points are made, but in a case when there are numerous boats who are drifting and a few are anchored, you gotta realize, its going to happen. I have had people “encroach” on my fishing zone(s), and I know I have done the same, so to me I think nothing of it, I don’t own the river… just my opinion…

To add, this is one of the hottest biting times of the year as well, so…

I am like that most of the time. Usually it is other people in the boat that will make remarks about a boat getting too close or driving by too fast, too close. I try to be as understanding as possible, but there are people who obviously don’t care, do things on purpose and just do not think. I always give boats as wide a birth as reasonably possible. I will also as co-captain suggest a more courteous route if I feel they might start encroaching.

As fishermen, there is a little arrogance and selfishness that is inherent to us and I am including myself of course. Its a matter of being reasonable and tempering those feeling of, “Its a big lake” type moments before saying it.

Although, I do admit being annoyed the last time out, from some absent minded guy or idiot, what I said out loud, who literally drove by, only but 5-10yrds away going full throttle. There were a few other boats drifting along, who I’m sure were upset as well. There is the rest of the river open to travel on…

It happens every year no matter what. Some people are just clueless and stupid, dumb, ignorant and anything else you can think of. Last week we were anchored on the wolf river by Fremont Wis. we were about 15 yards off the bank where I could see bottom. I had no less than 4 boats come between us and the shoreline in the 45 minutes we fished there. People just don’t have any common sense or courtesy anymore..

A 1 oz bell sinker bouncing off the side of their boat usually sends the appropriate message.

not saying i havn’t wanted to do this but…..you can get cited for boater harassment for such a thing. NOT that the dnr will actually show up and do their jobs.

kind of like the TIP line…..you can call all you want but nothing will get done so go ahead and cast away!

Yep it’s true, you know spring is officially here when these types of posts pop up. I personally think that when you get mass amounts of people fishing a concentrated area it is going to bring out a few of the rotten eggs.

This problem has a simple solution. Catch and release only from Jan.1st through April 30th on all waters of pool 4 upstream from Fredericks Point. Closed to all fishing for the same period on all water upstream from Hay Creek. Bingo !! No crowds…. now wasn’t that easy

will never happen too much money to be lost by tournaments and local bait shops, hotels, ext. we will never see a slot, closed season, catch and release season ever on pool 4 so we can all keep dreaming about how great this fishery would be with some tighter regs. (not that its not a good fishery) sure would like to see it more like a rainy river fishery though.

Seriously I don’t think most folks know they are doing anything wrong.

Really, I don’t think they wake up in the morning and say “I’m going to cut someone off tolling today”. Common sense?

I think common sense of the river comes with experience.

Last Sunday I watched a boat head down stream through the Red Wing no wake zone making a good one foot wake behind him. Since the boat had down riggers on it, I figured he wasn’t from the area and didn’t know he was in a no wake zone.

My take…but I generally take a deep breath and try not to let it ruin my day. Fishing is meant to be fun right?

Are they harassing you buy interfering with your fishing. Who’s to say you did it maliciously? You were just casting and didn’t see them boating into your casting area.
