My buddy, dad, and i headed up to pool 4 for the first time in our lives and we had some beginners luck i guess you could say! Wasnt much of a planned trip, kinda threw our crap together and went down the road! I did a lot of research and i was optimistic. After a lot of running around red wing trying to find a depth finder battery my dad left behind, we finally made it to everts.

When we docked the boat we headed straight for the area around the dam. We started off fishing diamond island (i think) and we couldnt buy a bite. We then trolled around the minnesota side of the dam. We used minnows, worms, and 4 inch ringworms with jigs. We fished in the rain for 3 hours, without a bite. Didnt look like anyone around us was catching fish, but i could be wrong.

We then started heading down river towards town. My friend caught a small largemouth on a rapala, soon after he got a nice 5.5 lb walleye, it was about 23 inches. She was pretty plump of eggs. I decided i better get a rap on. Soon after i got a nice 24.5 inch female. I didnt wanna weigh it so i could make sure i got it in the water pretty quick. It had to have been 6.5 lbs or more. We caught a couple white bass after that, but we found both the walleyes ready spawn up close to shore in no more than 5 fow.

The northern was from pool 5 on thursday.

I was using an sr-7 perch rap with an orange belly, and my friend was using an sr-5 with a maroon top and white belly. we had various speeds, but because we were trying to fish so close to shore we actually trolled along the shoreline, while casting directly onto the sand beach and then reeling it back to the boat. therefore the speed had little affect on the actual fish.

Great job on the PB’s. It was tough for my dad and I yesterday! We started out pitching shallow lookin for some bigger fish for a couple hours and missed 1 fish and then switched gears and caught a few for the frypan! Looks like you did good for your first ever trip to pool 4! I started fishing late last spring(post spawn), hit it a couple times over the summer, and then couldn’t wait to ge out there this year! You will get hooked on P4 sooner or later as I did.

Wannabefishing: were did you get the eaters? we fished all afternoon in all areas around the dam but we couldnt get anything! we went were all the other boats were, so i might have saw you! I was shocked we couldnt find a bite in those areas, i have heard that there are fish everywhere around there!
