The boy is headed back to Madison tomorrow from his spring break week. Can only stand so much of his parents and home when the big city awaits. Got him out for a bit of fishing today. First time my boat has been on the water since last fall. All things considered not a bad day. Worked south of Red Wing late morning and then hit the common spots as we worked up river. Ended up getting some sauger and walleye eaters as well as some shorties but nothing huge in the line of drifters above the Y on the WI side. First time I had seen the shoreline mods too. Then somewhere in that mix I had a good snag. And it started moving. A good while later and my little jig rod with 6# line brought the big bucket mouth Flatie to the surface. 1/8 oz jig and purple ringworm. No scale in the boat but was 37″ on my tape and felt heavy in the net. Camera battery was dead but got a pic on my antique cell phone that has no connection capabilities. I kissed her goodbye and watched the other boats around me act relieved. Headed home about 5:30. Goofy kid wanted to get home and not wait for the evening bite. Oh well a beautiful day on the water with your son is never a bad thing.

I’m thinking the kid has you beat by a couple pounds.
    Keep trying.

I suppose the next thing you tell me is that he can out drink me. Thanks for that trip by the way. He still talks about it.
