Well Me and my old friend I haven’t seen in over 5 years set out for his first time on pool 4 fishing started out slow then an hour into it I threw on a gold blade bait and started catching some nice fish and this 29” came to the boat measured it didn’t get the girth or the weight and let her swim im kinda regretting it this morning because that was my biggest walleye to date but I feel like I did the Wright thing. And this PB flat head fought me for 20 min hit the gold blade also. So all in all it was a good day kept 5 eaters and toughed out that cold wind that we both were under dressed for

Congrats on the PB’s. Very Nice Eye and cat. Thanks for letting the big girl go to make some more! Any good taxidermist can make a great replica from that photo . And IMO they look better, and last longer from what I hear. And someone else has the chance to catch their PB with that very same fish!! You did the right thing! Thats what makes Pool 4 such a good fishery, a lot of C&R guys out there. Its great to see the cameras come out and the fish go back.

Nicely done larson!! I’d say you did the right thing by releasing the beast. If you want to get it mounted a replica from lax or many other taxidermists would be a great option. In my opinion skin mounts look more accurate but will fade throughout the years. With replicas they will look GREAT pretty much forever. Something that can stay in the family and stay in top shape forever. Just my two cents but i think it’s a great thing to let big fish swim away and see another day!

Nice fish! And great job on the release. If you want her on the wall, a replica will be even better than a skin mount and you can sleep well knowing she’s out there for someone else to score a PB.

I can see the reasons for letting big walleyes go,but at times it seems a little childish. It was stated that 3 big walleyes went in the box.Who knows, maybe these are the biggest eyes they have ever caught. If they can legally keep them, I say good for them. Now before a person assumes I am nothing but a meat hog, i am not. I release all of my big walleyes I catch. It just seems that if a person does not have the same personal slot they are looked down upon.

The biggest one you’ve caught is only that until you catch a bigger one. With catch and release the “fish of a lifetime” label stops applying because when you and others let them go you’ll catch several of those fish over the course of your lifetime.

But what if you’re very unlucky and never catch one that is bigger?

Targa – I’d say keep trying. That’s the thrill of the hunt, right? There’s always a bigger one out there.

Awesome fish for sure! Looks like it could be over the 12# mark!!

Ok as an Iowa boy that likes to fish red wing I feel I have to say something here. Please don’t lump all us Iowans together, when I go up there I realese all fish I feel are females and all walleyes over 20″. When we were up there a few weeks ago we were the only boat that was realesing big female saugers, saw plenty of Minnesota boats keeping saugers full of eggs. As for the river down here “being fished out” that’s not true at all, it’s actually very good. Perhaps the people you speak about go up there is because we have a 20-27″ with one over 27″ slot and they want to keep fish that size I dont know. Atleast you guys don’t have to live with the “walleye fishermen” of Iowa it gets a little old watching people keep big eyes full of eggs from the des Moines. But please remember there are Iowans that understand the importance of releasing big eyes.

Sorry just struck a nerve. I will be sure to discriminate against Minnesotans that I see hunting here in Iowa next fall.

Well since this post went arye already….

    I haven’t met anyone from Iowa that I haven’t liked…

…and there’s only two in IL that I’ve met that aren’t worth worm poop.

I’m glad this isn’t a serious post. I would have to shake my head and ask out loud, “what does it take for fishermen to get along?”

CPR buddy, I recommend getting to know the guys on this forum….well, all except Larson…he’s from WI.
