With a drastic drop in temperature and pretty high winds it was hard to be real optimistic about my first real trip to Pool 4. I have fished it twice before but both were trips straight to the damn and I was the passenger along for the ride.

With my father and father in-law along we started our day searching for attractive current seams close to deep water. We hoped to find some big girls in these locations and we did find a couple….but not until 1:00pm with sun high in the sky.

The two bigs for the day were a healthy 27″ and 24″ walleye both caught in less than 9 feet. Purple pink tale ringworm and a jig minnow snapped aggressively took these fish. I noticed an aggressive snap helped take fish in the middle of the day when the bite was a bit slower.

We also caught roughly 20 sauger in 12-15ft and found some seams loaded with white bass which are a blast to catch.

Throw in the two bonus smallies and it was a fun and productive day on pool 4 with much learned about this area on my behalf for future trips.

Good luck to all and enjoy this early spring weather! I also want to say I greatly enjoy and apprecite this forum!

Probably a dead give away where this fish was caught…..

But, who is to say THAT’S where the fish was caught.

    Photo’d more than one a mile away…

FWIW, i’m of the opinion that WHEN the fish are in a good structure is more critical knowledge than WHERE they are. Where is often common knowledge…

You’re right, we stopped in about 7:30…I totally agree about Pool 4 and hope to fish it a lot more in the future!

Beautiful Fish and what great loooking weather! And way to show off to the Dads! I do the same thing! I will have to start charging a “guide fee” for as many fish(although no big ones, except for a couple for myself) I have put them on thanks to the info from this great site.

Sweet fish! I fished last night to find the fished had moved from thir Wednesday evening locations and were in a much different mood. The fish seemed to prefer a slower jig presentation versus the fast blade bait bite from the night before.
