    Still learning the River thing…

everytime i go i learn a little more but am confused when, why, and where to go with vertical jigging vs. dragging.

Any advise for this River Rookie would be greatly appreciated

There are exceptions to every rule but in general dragging plastics tends to work best in low flow and low light conditions. Vertical works best when you have more current to deal with and brighter conditions. You tend to vertical jig at depths over 10 feet or so and dragging is usually in the shallower areas. Like I said there are exceptions but at least it is a place for you to start.

Shallow water is great for dragging. The boat can spook fish in shallow water and dragging is a good way to get those jigs away from the boat. You can also get more action out of your plastics while dragging than drifting with the current vertical jigging.

What rivers are you fishing in. I know the rivers around Lake Mills and ALL of them are very small. Just curious what area you fish – might be able to offer better advice.

Hah! I scratched my head too, then saw Bull Cans was from Lake Mills IA.

But then again, not many rivers down near Don & Ruby’s.

You are correct The Mississippi and we normally launch out of Everts or Bay City

Only 2.15 hours from Lake Mills IA
