Pool Four starting to heat up

03-16-12 Mississippi River Pool Four fishing is getting good, and with the great weather it is a real treat to float the boat right now!
We caught two limits of sauger yesterday in the 15 to 18 inch range and one large 21” fish released. This bite is far from at its peak and is really just starting. Best techniques have been trolling three ways with Rapala stickbaits, and vertical jigging, and dragging jigs.
When the water rises the large walleye will be coming shallow in the day and much more catchable. Right now the large walleyes are biting after dark on shallow sand.
Water clarity is dark, which usually makes the daytime bite great.

Coulda fooled me… I was dfown from Noon to 5 today 3 waying south and I think I saw maybe a dozen fish boated in that time. Some jigging, Some 3 waying, But it’s far from heating up in my opinion.

Hey Chapp, the guys at 4 Season have been getting some great reports. Not everyone, but more than last week.

The fish I saw at Everts echoes the same story. But again, there were some p4 regulars that couldn’t buy a fish.

I think “starting to heat up” is the key here.

Great report. I have to agree on the just starting. I think everyone is fishing the unseasonably nice weather rather than the actual dates for when the good fishing starts. “THE BITE” is still a couple weeks off according to my journals! Although I do believe it may come a little bit earlier. Good luck everyone!

Main channel on pool 5a was 44-45 today. I had been hearing reports of 50 in the backwaters but could only find around 46-47 today

    Chappy,

Well late last week most guys were doing poor. Then as this week progressed the guys I know and me are putting about 2 limits in the boat. Nothing wild or hot. So in light of the bite improving from the guys I associate with I reported starting to heat up.

Friday was better still we had 3 limits from 8am to 2 pm, I still believe the bite is starting to heat up and is improving. No not a hot bite.
