Just wanted to give a quick update on the Pool 2 status…I will be of the water for over a week or so as I will be out to Lake Erie hopefully boating some big walleyes!
The bite on Pool 2 remains very slow as of the last week or so. Everything south of the confluence has gotten slower and slower for my boat. A few missed opportunities is about all I can say for my last couple trips south of the confluence. I pitched wingdams, backwaters, sand flats, rip rap shorleines only to come up with a few white bass, some sheephead, and a couple jumbo carp that took their liking to some hair jigs.
The bite north of the confluence has not been a barn burner either but boating a few fish in the 14-20 inch range seems to be the norm right around sunset in the current break edges and backwaters. The current levels are dropping which are normally a sensitive issue with the walleyes this time of year, but I think this will improve the bite a bit up near the dam. Soem of the current breaks up there were nearly non-fishable for several days last week due to the amount of current. Now that its dropping, current breaks should be much more toerable for anchoring or holding the boat adjacent to the breaklines. I have been pitching cranks to these areas or pithcing ringworms on light jigs to produce the better sized fish.
I had decent bite way south of 494 about 8 days ago, trolling small wally divers on a sand/riprap current break in some shallow water, but that fizzled quickly over the next couple of days after that. Nothing big, but consistent action. Look or the slow trolling crank bite in shallow water to improve a bit as well in the backwaters. Water temps are hovering in the upper 40’s in the main channel and up to 52 degrees in the backwaters.
Good luck!
