I’ll start by saying I know nothing about pool 3. I fish the croix and occasionally P4. First are there any launches on pool 3. Are there walleye spots from the croix down to lock 3. I’ve read about the Buffalo slough area and heard this stretch of the the Mississippi can be good and is littered with wing dams. Anybody fish this regularly wanna give me some info on this portion of the river.

There’s a Launch in Prescott just south of the St. Croix.

I’m no walleye expert but walleye fishing is popular from the confluence and south along the wingdams. Elsewhere I have no clue but others will chime in…

There are wingdams a-plenty and learning how to fish them will be a good start. There is also a public landing just down from the Hastings Dam.

There’s no walleye in pool 3

All kidding aside, Pool 3 has some great fishing. There is a launch in prescott but if you plan on launching there more than once you’re better off buying the season pass. Also a launch in hastings and one at the casino. I wouldn’t use the casino ramp to much as people have had things stolen there before.

If launching at Prescott remember that you have 3 different sets of rules.

From the confluence of the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers at Prescott:

    1. Up river on the Mississippi river follows MN inland rules plus minimum size on Walleye is 15″. Walleye/Sauger/Pike/Bass closed on Feb. 26th.

    2. Up river on the St. Croix follows MN-WI boarder water St. Croix rules. Walleye/Sauger/Pike/Bass closes on March 1st.

3.Down river follows MN-WI boarder water Mississippi rules. Walleye/Sauger/Pike/Bass continuous season.

There are lots of wing dams just South of the Prescott launch to check out. Sometimes there can be a fair amount of ice flowing down the Mississippi so be careful out there.

I like fishing the small humps below the railroad bridge in prescott. Or the rock transition in front of the public dock.
