OK, I thought I was a pretty decent fisherman, but reading posts for the last hour has shown me that I don’t know a thing. One thing I admit is that I dont know anything about fishing the river. My buddy and I have been out at the 494 launch 3 times now with no luck at all. We are throwing everything in the box at em but having no luck…marking a few fish but not catching em. wingdams, points, pools, channels, we’ve tried them all.

Here are a few questions: With a 15hp merc on a 14 foot lund, how long would it take us to get up to the dam? Is there a better place to launch the boat? Is there a map online that would help? We know nothing, and we bow to your greatness We love fishing but are getting frustrated as hell.

Any tips on catchin Mr. Walter would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve only fished pool 2 once (late summer), but can tell you that we caught fish until our arms were tired, so they’re in there. We were entertaining ourselves with the whitebass on the wingdams, but ended up landing a couple of eyes and the unavoidable sheepers as well.

Best advice is to hook up with someone from the website who’s a pool 2 regular and let them show ya how it’s done. The most learning I have done in the last three years has been on trips with people from EFN. I thought I was a pretty good fisherman also, but the guys here are the real deal and not a bad egg in the bunch.

Dude, I feel your pain! I was out below Guttenberg last week and saw all kinds of walters and his buddy soggy being thrown in da cooler; right next to our boat, not 10 feet away. And us? Nothing! Zip! Zero! Well, we did catch one rock bass a whopping 5″ long! I think Gianni is right on. I know the fish were in the area I was trying, the problem was me. I just need to learn what to throw at them and how to do it. Maybe I can sucker one of the board members to join me on the the good ship lollipop for a day on the river and show me a thing or two…

Hey Rookies, I really like seeing your posts because then I (a rookie) don’t feel so lonesome. I can tell you I’m learning but you have to ask and hopefully you have enough friends familiar with these walleyes and ones willing to help you. The best advice I’ve heard so far is “It’s all about time on the water” And what better classroom could you have? Good Luck! Hopefully someday we will be able to help somebody like us ROOKIES.

Keep your eyes on the pool 2 fishing reports by Steve DeZurik. Steve will be going out to Lake Erie for a week but when he gets back he will be fishing pool 2 again. We ALL learn from each other here so please feel free to share your fishing outtings with the rest of us. Below is a link to a report on pool 2.
    Thanks, Bill
