Slot on Saugers?

I was just wondering why there isn’t a slot on saugers in the Sippi . I mainly fish pool 16 and see a lot of small…very small saugers being harvested. I could see keeping a smaller fish if the air bladder was coming out of its mouth or the fish wasn’t going to make it but, 90% of the time this isn’t the case.

Personally I would like to see at least a 12″ minimum with only one over 19″. I know with any other slot, you can’t keep a fish that is not legal even if it is damage from being caught so I wont even mention that part.

    Any opinions?

I would love to see a 14-17″ limit on Saugers on pools 6,7,8,9, with one over 20.

I second that motion. Make it a law.

Dont need it. Get away from the dam on 16 and you will find bigger fish. I have no problems taking a limit of 11.5-13″ers, in fact that is what I prefer. I’ll let the 16+ go all day long.

A limit of 12″ers is fantastic eating, and there is plenty of them to go around. I would much rather keep 12″ sauger than 18″ walleye.

I just hate seeing people keep 8 to 10 inch fish, and then turning around and saying that there aren’t many big ones out there. Most of the bigger fish I have caught this year have been in 6-12 FOW on the edge of current breaks. Personally I don’t keep many fish unless I plan on cooking them up that day or the next day.

I say leave it alone! The fishing has been good and getting better every year so Y take the option of keeping smaller fish away from those who may want to!

I for one would rather keep 10-13″ saugers over the bigger ones any day! much better table fair!

If we were talking about a lake that was dependent on stocking efforts then I would be all for it! One other thing is a lot of folks like to fish 30+ feet of water this time of year for a faster action bite! You and I know the majority of fish in the deeper depths are on the smaller size! Ill admit Im guilty of this on occasions when its a nice day and i want to take my 5 year old down he wants to get bites! on these days we fish deep and are prepared to keep smaller fish so we can get a limit and move on!

If you put the slot on that wouldnt stop people from fishing deep just stop them from keeping fish. they would fish longer and pull more fish from the deep water. I think there would be more negatives than positives on this one!

I guess the main point and only one to be considered is that its not needed on the river! IMHO!
