Boy oh boy, been out 3 of the last five days and found the bite to be crazy, limits still very easy to come by, in the last couple days we’ve tossed back almost a dozen over 17″, today was great boated three paddlefish 2 of which were pulled in on 3lb fireline and the other on 4lb one of the paddle had a 12″ lamprey on it, this upcoming week the weather is continuing to be nice, sweet!

I saw your truck parked at Everts today when we were picking up some stuff.

Thanks for supporting that big fish the way you are. Any large fish is seldom hurt by catching them, but can be hurt by the way they are handled.

I have a small hope in my heart that the two DNR’s will open up Lake Sturgeon fishing on Pool 4 if they/we can figure out a way to ensure unwitting anglers aren’t picking them up by the gill covers but do support their mid section while handling them.

I’ll fall over dead if we have a paddle fish season on Pool 4 in my life time. In the mean time they are sure a hoot to catch/snag/release and see pictures of!

Oh yeah, nice mess of saugers too.

I hope to God you cut the head off that lamprey, why would anyone want to re-introduce a lamprey back into the water. They should be destroyed, the DNR encourages killing them !!!

I’m guessing your thinking of the Sea Lamprey. Silver and Chestnut’s are indigenous to the Mississippi Waterway.

We could kill every one that we see and still not make a dent. I honestly think they are pretty cool, nasty but cool. Native as well so no need to hate. Same goes for mud puppies. Always a good conversation piece when out on the water.

    Conservation and Management
We do not know what the impact of chestnut lamprey populations is on sport fishes, and we do not attempt to manage this species. Some anglers view chestnut lampreys as a nuisance because they sometimes find them attached to the sport fish they catch.
