Pool 2 Anyone?

Just curious if anyone has gotten out with things being fishable again. I will be in St. Paul tomorow morning, I will check out Hidden falls access, and condition of the river on that end.

I may fish tomorrow night and would really like to try up by the confluence, rather than down by 494, but sounds like that is an option.

I’ll post my finding and report if there is one.

What is everybody’s thoughts on security of the differnt ramps on pool 2? I know some are better than others, and there is a risk anywhere these days, just thought I’d check considering I’d be fishing well into dark.

    Thanks to all

Was out today at 494. Fished north of there. had to break some pretty good ice to get threw some spots. The bite was kinda slow. No big fish. Did manage a few saugers in the 17 to 19″ range. Joel did get one decent walleye in the low 20″s.

Joel mentioned that on his way over the bridge today that the confluence looked pretty iced up. Keep in mind that could change pretty fast in this weather.

Saw 4 rigs at 494 ramp. Drove past lillydale on the way home and she is all iced up. I’ve never had anything jacked while out on pool 2, knock on wood.

I never have either. Is there a landing anywhere nowadays that is safe. Dont leave anything you would like to keep in the vehicle is the best plan.

Thats alaways been my feeling as well, I’ve never had any issue at hidden falls, and 494 the times I’ve been down there.
Like everything else common sense applies. Just thought I’d check. This time of year not a whole lot of traffic at those ramps, probably too cold/early in the season for the “thieves” as well.

Thanks guys, I’ll check the river around noon, probably will fish elsewhere if ice is still an issue. Definately want access to those shallow water haunts.
    Thanks Cam

I was at Hidden Falls at noon. For anyone interested, the river is wide open as far as you can see in both directions and there is only a very small ledge of ice at the ramp maybe 3 ft. wide. One truck would break it up in a heartbeat. The river there is the lowest I’ve ever seen it and current is VERY slow. I might have been standing on shore, but in my head I was dragging a jig.

I was down there the same time, unfortunately can’t get out there tonight, but hopefully tomorrow. It’s looking great!

Any update on ice and ramp conditions?

    How’s Lilydale look?

Hiddenfalls and 494 still good to go?

494 is good to go. Lillydale i believe still has a ice shelf out in front. Heard that Gary launched out of hidden falls this afternoon. Main channel is pretty wide open n most places but keep a eye out for floating ice chunks. They are out there.

Havent found a decent bite yet. Getting a few walleyes and saugers jigging the usual winter holes but had to grind it out for what we caught. The fish are in these spots as we could see with the camera. its just a matter of being there when they decide to bite.
