Well made it down to the river this afternoon on a guide trip and found the fish quite active, it was a pretty steady bite, nothing real big but lots of fun even in the rain, purple and white jig, motor oil ringer charteuse tail was by far the best!I even took a photo of a client and his fish ( happy now )

Good job man. Can’t blame you for the title after getting jumped in your last post. You have been the most consistent source of info on the P4 bite for quite a while and for that I thank you.

The bite was good once we dialed in the right color and stayed pretty steady up to the time we left, it really is something how one color can be so superior right down to the jig color

Good catch Dan, How’d the overall bite go, did you get alot of others and had to sort, 40-50 fish? Did they bite after dark?

I will start by saying that I don’t have any problem with a limit being kept. I don’t have a problem with guides guiding clients to limits. I don’t have a problem with fishing all the time and I wish I could. I don’t even have much of a problem with lousy pics of dead fish. I also applaud RiverDan for not keeping anything over 17″. I do have a problem with one individual harvesting over 100 walleyes and saugers in a month. What is the real number? Not sure. But from the evidence that RiverDan supplies us 100 looks to be a reasonable estimate.
That is and has been my beef. And this post is the one I should have made in the beginning and left it at that.

You know Dan, I don’t know why anyone was giving you a hard time. It’s your right to take home a limit of fish everyday, if people don’t like it then they need to head to the DNR and get the daily bag limits lowered. You can’t knock someone who is NOT breaking any laws.

Pretty sure most are just jealous cause your slayin and fillet’in and they are just sitting at home on the puter looking for anything to gripe about.

    Keep on ’em buddy

The same thing happens when I post pictures of catfish I catch here. Thier mine and others limits. Its really hard to over fish an area when theres just a few guys who are good fishemen that are taking home thier limits. If everybody was doing it all up and down the river that would be diffrent. All its doing is culling the smaller ones out and that leaves more food for the others in the species. This is all happening in just one part of a river too leaveing the fish in the rest of the river and alot or almost all of them will never see a hook. Its the same here as We go back to the same places year after year and we always catch alot of catfish. Even taking home some of the big ones is just culling some of the big ones and not over fishing it. Scientifically the rivers working good here and Id bet is it up there too, or the DNR would change thier limits, I don’t think theres anything to worry about at all. If alot of guys were catching just the big female spawners that would be diffrent, hes just taking home the fryers.

Very well said Joel, some people need to learn to obey ethics as well as the laws.

Glad to see the change in photos Dan. I do not think posting pictures of up to 30 dead walleyes laying on a table or else where and then posting more pictures day after day was being very responsible unless you are trying to promote that as the norm and everyone should do the same. Legal? yes.

Would you feel the same if I kept 6 28″ walleyes and posted pictures all over the internet everytime I went out fishing?

Riverdan, I understand you are a guide and are promoting your buisness but I think with the job also comes the responsibilty. You are a “professional” and should be setting the example for the rest of us to follow not the other way around. I don’t think that there is anything wrong with keeping fish to eat, in fact I had walleye for lunch today. I don’t think that keeping as many limits of fish as legally possible is good for the river, your guide buisness, or this website.

My point is that the excuse of “because it’s legal it’s OK”
    doesn’t hold water.

riverdan is single handedly destroying pool 4 of the mississippi!!! when the sauger are all gone this spring we’ll all know who to blame!!!! 100 fish!!!????? that means there is only like 100000000000 LEFT!%!!#!! (yeah yeah yeah “what if everyone kept their limit everytime” well #1 they don’t. and #2 the dnr would change the limits…if the fish are going in the ice box and then get thrown away the next year then yeah thats a beef but someone has got to get some surveilance going or this is all moot)

seriously some of this is totally asinine. who cares how he takes pictures. tapdancing christmas, this is totally hilarious the reactions this guy is getting.

You folks all crack me up. Before when he didn’t post picks no one believed he was catching fish. Now he posts picks and whine about it. Get over it. It’s a limit and they are all under 17″. The trophies are still there. Dan is one of the most ethical and best sportsmen I know. His clients generally take home the fish or he eats it. Like it or not, what he’s doing is legal so get off your soapboxes and find something better to whine about.

Dan is not just a “good” person, he is a “great” person.

If his posts and pics bother you, don’t click on his reports. If that doesn’t work, then don’t bother with the internet.

The Mississippi forum is turning into the St. Croix forum…
