I made it out to fish in the ice and sleet. Launched at the resort, would have liked to use the back channel, but resort is easier and closer, especially with inclimate weather and fishing after dark by myself. Ramps were fine, but could have been better since we are paying for their use. Something is not right when “free ramp” condition is same as “pay ramp”. Enough said about that….
Fishing was good enough, bite before dusk was tough (if not fishing deep scour hole)
Scratched a couple fish in afternoon, dragging moxis and paddletailes 16 – 22FOW
The shallow dragging bite kicked in a little earlier with heavy overcast, think I had my first nice walleye in the boat by about 4:00.
1/8 jigs and moxis were the ticket again, flats adjacent to deeper water, 12-14 FOW, seemed to hold most biters for me again.
Quit fishing around 6:30, wasn’t fast and furious, but enough action to be worth the trip.
Relesed a handful of walleyes, kept a couple eater saugers, and caught my first female walleye of the winter season, nice CHUNKY 23 incher, all of the rest of the walleyes I’ve boated the last couple of weeks during low light have been males 16-22 inch range. Nice to see one of those chunky gals in the mix. Hope to get out again later this week, with temps above freezing in the forecast.
I really enjoy the winter night dragging bite, a heck of a lot of fun!
How late into the night will those fish bite this time of Year?
