Anyone heading out? I think that the ice should clear up a bit by the weekend. Has anyone fished out of Hidden Falls yet? Is there still a decent bite at 494?

I moved south of the city, any recommendations for bait between Eagan and 494 bridge? The closest I know of is just down from the Highway 13 ramp, and that is a bit out of the way.

It might be cold, but it has been 5 weeks since I was out last. I need to see if I still know how to fish!

If you come in Hwy 55 to Hastings, Hastings Outdoors is just before the Hastings bridge, otherwise there is a shop in the strip mall in Newport (Gregs) next to Savoy Pizza on the East side of the hwy.

Sounds pretty stormy yet for the weekend….

    Dave,

I am hoping to get out both Saturday and Sunday this weekend(wait and see what the weather does). Its been a few weeks for me and I am starting to go through withdrawals. Got my boat all ready to go for the weekend, but I may have to stick with the winter beater for one more weekend until the roads clean up a little. I have not been down to the 494 ramp lately. Jon J. mentioned that the river was iced shut a few days ago. I would imagine she has opened a little since. I will check the 494 ramp tommorrow or Friday and report the status.

    Good Luck

I drive Sheppard road along the river to work-it still has a lot of ice, but better than Monday and Tuesday. Mid 30s Thurs and Fri should change things a bit. If it is fishable this weekend, I would think that there would be a ton of ice floating downriver.

DeeZee-are you still fishing wing dams this time of year? Or deeper water?

FYI guys the ramp at Hidden falls has about a 10 to 15 ft. shelf of ice extending out from the ramp. It doesn’t look real thick, but could cause a few probs. this weekend if it doesnt get a tad warmer by fri. or sat. I’ll check it again tomorow at lunch and will let you guys know how it looks when I get home. At the very worst you might have to do a little chipping but I imagine the current will do most of the work tommorow.

Thanks Bill for the update. I forgot that you work so close to the landing there.

    DaveB,

I have not done much on the wingdams up here for quite awhile, it has been real slow lately. I suspect these will start to turn fish pretty soon with the onslaught of spring right around the corner. My focus on my next outings will be pitching light jigs to flats adjacent to some of the key main channel wingdams.

Checked the ramp at hidden falls andd everything is a go, barring a severe cold snap by fri. afternoon. The current pulled all the ice away, water up to ramp, looks good.
