Took my best friend for one last fishing trip, for ten years he’s been the best fishing partner and has more confidence in me in catching fish then I do sometimes everytime I touch my dead stick he’s on his feet cheering me on what a dog! Sure going to miss him but I’m sure I’ll train another dog to fish! Drag bite at dusk was great!

I also had a good fishing gal with me all the time too! Her last few years she just did not like to go. She would just sit and wine and wanted to go to shore. It is our lost isn’t it. I miss her.

Dan, saw you down there a week and a half ago – I had one of your old boats… Saw you with your dog… no better partner whining about where you are, going too fast or yelling at you for missing that bite, but your biggest cheerleader (a tail wag or two) is the best. Hope to see you out there soon.
    Take care, its all good…

Those yellow labs are really something else. I hope you get another down the line. They are great lovers!

I saw you two down at the ramp yesterday. Your buddy looked like he was working pretty hard to get around, but I don’t know if I have a seen a dog so happy to jump in a boat! It is pretty amazing how dogs can learn your body movements and know when it is ‘fish on’ time. They get all worked up about it because they want share in your excitement. A pooch certainly does make a good fishing partner! Good look to you both.

I will confirm that the dragging bit at dusk and beyond was excellent. Any brite color did the trick for us.

P.S. Dan, you better work on your RLC so you don’t lose your $3 next time.

Sorry to hear of your last trip. I try to convince myself that it is just a stupid animal, but I can’t say it. Glad to see it was a good trip

I feel your pain Dan! I am in the same boat as you… My pup is 12 right now still loves that river more than I do I think. I will keep picking her up to get her in the boat but her days are getting limited as well. Glad to see you and your best bud enjoyed your time out doing what you love to do!!

Thanks guys! its amazing how attached you get to those animals, he’s been the best dog we’ve ever had, 10 years ago when I brought him home he wouldn’t stop whining at night so I had to slept with my hand on him and he has been my best buddy from day one. Most labs if you mention the word hunting they get all worked up but not my dog if he heard the word fishing, walleyes, boat or seen a fishing rod he got excited, sure going to miss him but I’m sure my next one will love to fish also!
